    @ wore out

You could run a 5 channel amp w/ some 3 way coax speakers in front, a pair of 2 way coax's in the back and a single 10" sub and I bet you'd be happy as a pig in #### with the sound. Loud enough that it'll sound good when the windows are down, but not over the top on $ for the components. Put the bulk of the $ in the amp so you have good quality power and you wont be able to barely hear the difference in $40 speakers vs $200 speakers.

This is how we used to build budget systems for customers at my friends shop in Az. Start out with a basic stuff then upgrade as $ allowed. Best part was they kept comin back and spendin more $ lol.

Dang you guys are killing me! I check back in this evening and since this afternoon I've got 150 posts to read! Keep up the good work guys! I just wish I had more time to participate on here.

Okay okay! I'll get some more pics coming soon.

It’s an rf transistor. Most of them are rated at 12 volts I think? So the radio producing 20 watts of drive into the amp which has say 4 transistors that each produce for instance 60 watts a piece with 4 watts drive, (don't have a spec sheet handy) then produce their rated output of 240 watts at 12.5 volts theoretically. Of course, there are efficiency losses depending on the style of amplifier (class ab1, c, etc?) Vehicle charging systems produce 13.6-14.4 or so, so you can get a bit better than the transistor produces due to increased voltage. (The harder you drive it, the more output until the point of diminishing return which is when heat builds, you lose power and smell smoke). On a related note, driving say a 4 pill competition amp with a radio doing 20 watts may get you 500 watts, where as a radio producing 100 watts will get you 700-800 or maybe more.

That’s why I suggest 20 modulated watts coming from his radio into that amplifier at the most, so it doesn’t overdrive the transistors and build up heat and saturate and lose efficiency. The transistors are capable of holding heat quite well, but they all have their limits. The key to successfully running an amplifier is having a deadkey of 1:4 power output, (say 60-75 watt deadkey for 300 watts output) feeding it with sufficient gauge wire, and not overdriving them. I also put fans on all my amps just to be safe but they work fine without them. Then I keep a meter inline just in case the coax gets a dead short I can tell before it does damage. Hope that clears it up, it’s late and I am tired.

Here's my screw up from a couple days ago. We had to get the pay loader to pull me backwards.

Yep that helped...but I'll still find you a load up here....or I'll find one down there.

    Thanks!!!

That's what's great is we can learn from each other. I've always been able to fix most anything.....sometimes that's from experience....sometimes that from the numbers I have in my phone.
