I had an issue with a past employer. Called the cops, asked for a no contact order against the owner, then asked for an escort to pick up my last pay check.
In my opinion, making first contact with a LEO is important. Don't escalate things, don't "handle" it yourself, the man is there for a reason. Sometimes they can't help because no law has been broken, but they can still offer advice or broker solutions.

Why do I have the feeling that there is a lot more to this story than simply turning down a job offer?

I was going to bring the seemingly endless highs real estate a market like Toronto is seeing. That draws in a heck of a lot of tax revenue and there's lots of economic activity happening. Just that is plenty to trump Detroit. It's unfortunate, but it is what it is.
I won't ever live in or too close to Toronto. Honestly, it feels like a foreign place to me. Unless I'm at the Rogers centre watching baseball. When the van attack happened a few weeks ago, it felt the same to me as any other news story about some terror issue in a far away land. -
NavigatorWife and rolls canardly Thank this. -
It's only difficult to believe because somebody who owns a small fleet has obtained at least some level of success, and being stupid enough to threaten somebody in writing that simply turned down your job offer isn't something you would expect from somebody smart enough to own and operate a company, even a trucking company.TheyCallMeDave and Opendeck Thank this. -
x1Heavy Thanks this.

Believe me I never went anywhere with the cops. I handed them the phone and let them deal with it. -
