Possible for an older driver to break in?

Trucking companies don't discriminate concerning age. They're one of the few careers that don't discriminate about most issues. If you can pass a physical and drug test; you're hired.

If you have a medical, CDL, and a clean driving record someone will hire you. That being said, do you really want to? After 37 years at one place I’m assuming you have some decent connections. The trucking life at 62 will do you no favors.

 

Sir this is the industry for you if you need to continue your drive to support the countries economy. As long as you can drive and keep a medical card someone will employ you. I know multiple people who are doing heavy haul well into thier 70's. Getting a door swinger job should be a piece of cake. Good luck.

Seriously though, the drug test and physical are anyone cares about.

 

The poster could live the semi-retired life literally. Seeing the country without trying to be in a rush, and make some money doing it. I'd rather see older drivers than the young kids driving. Most of them have no common sense.

 

I'm 62. I got back into trucking when I was 58. In my experience companies would rather hire folks that are more mature, in all senses of the word.

 

Think about your health, for a younger person they can get by with the lifestyle needed. As you age your bathroom needs change, can you handle having to possibly hold it for up to a hour before you can get parked and get to the room? Then your sleep cycle gets wacked, regular sleep is just a memory after getting on the road. Your diet is going to be challenged. Eating healthy makes a huge difference. Exercise, get some. Trucking is a lifestyle that some of us like, but aging can make it a problem, dang it you worked most of your life. Go grab a fishing pole, sit back, relax. Enjoy.

 

You can find catheters online even without a prescription. YouTube can show you the procedure. Bathroom needs are easily overcome.

 

You can even get diapers up to as good as the astronauts use. I just trying to point out the lifestyle change that hits from a controlled job where you can walk over to the room and do your business versus the driving job, you get the twinge, start looking where to park 70 foot of ? and then if doing it in the truck, you up where everyone can see you. And some people will actually stare.
