Is it really a distraction to learn that traffic is at a dead stop just over that next hill? Or that white-out conditions exist 3 miles up the road? Or that there's a drunk driver coming at you without his lights on? Or that your trailer doesn't have any lights because the pigtail fell out? Or that there is an issue with your load that needs to be addressed? Or that you've got a tire going flat? Or lug nuts are being flung off your trailer?

Stuff happens, and being able to communicate with those around you is never a bad thing.

 

Even the most stringent laws against the use of electronic devices have exceptions for close range 2-way radios. Why? Because in some situations, THEY ARE REQUIRED BY LAW! So which law are you going to break, the one that says you must be in communication or the one that says you CAN'T be in communication? The law recognizes the fact that it is safer to be in communication with those around you, and that prohibiting this communication decreases the overall safety of everyone on the road.

Close range 2-way radio communication won't be banned...not unless or until there is something better in place to replace it.

 

And again, a burger that's falling apart and dripping on you is a completely different situation than a CB. If properly mounted, operating a CB is no different than shifting gears.
