Yes good job. I'll pass this along to some friends of mine. They get the HW, but are forced into some ridiculous high priced insurance.

That I don’t know. In my situation I wasn’t getting any H&W at all in any form.
If you are forced into insurance or 401k you don’t want contact DOL and they will look into it.

Some mail contractors take your excess health and welfare dollars and force you to take their 401k with it.

The pay is good and I think the benefits are probably good, but you have to go straight to where you're going and the schedule is very tight.

I drove for a mail carrier when I was a lease driver. I'm sure it's a good job but I don't want to be on any kind of a tight schedule like that myself.

If you want to know who the mail contractors are in Pennsylvania you could probably try a Google search, or just go to one of the facilities and sit outside and watch the trucks coming in and out you'll see the names.

That cannot be legal.......401K accounts should be completely independent from an employer. I would be pissed!!!

    Just call them and ask.
The reason some mail contractors force you into a 401K is so they don't have to pay payroll tax on the H&W $$
Legal or not I don't know, but do you really want to fight this before you even get a job there?

Postal contractors work under The McNamara-O’Hara Service Contract Act.

Under this act, as enforced by the Dept of Labor, contractors are required to provide Health & Welfare benefits as dictated by what are called a Wage Determination. The amount is dictated by where your run originates.

Part of the enforcement is the requirement of the driver receiving this money, it has to be separated away from your regular wage. It CAN be paid cash, but has to be itemized and it's taxed as normal income.

Having been to meetings given by the Dept of Labor for this very subject, they take a dim view of contractors paying this amount in cash. It's called Health & Welfare benefits for a reason, it's intent is to go for health insurance and retirement.
