You can't call yourself a premium private carrier and cut wages and expect to get the best...mgt is clueless and obviously they have no idea about the saying.."you get what you pay for"...hopefully they get the msg...

I’ve told my GTM those exact words, “You get what you pay for” in regards to dedicated drivers.

    Not all are, agreed. But.....

I had a Celadon driver complain to me that Walmart wanted him to run more than one load per day. I told him to get in his truck as fast as he could because I could not guarantee his personal safety.

    From me.

I have no patience for people who want money and complain about having to work for it.

I understand where you are coming from; but... you know what’s up with that? We are paid by the day: all of us have different ideas on what is acceptable pay versus how many hours we put into it. You guys get paid for all activity: we don’t. So; if we run our 14 hour clock out each and every day; we are not really doing much better than many non driving jobs. I understand what you are saying; but, as a daily paid dedicated: I understand what he might have been trying to say as well. If he’s not running average miles across the board: the dispatchers at Celadon will know: I am sure; and replace him or her.. I usually run everyday at least 12 hours.., there are many who won’t; and I see where they are coming from: but, that’s not what I do.
I keep an open mind about what people say they do and won’t do: it’s all a matter of perspective... But, my experience on my board: everyone has been really nice: a lot of them hate that we are there; but, don’t hold it against us personally... :)

I forgot to give you an example: I pulled a Gm load out the other day: great... drop and hook; take mt back to a grocery dc: then; had a 3 stop grocery load outta there: first 2 live unloads.. the 3 rd turned into live unload since they had no mt.. there.. those 3 grocery unloads took 8 hours: all this added up to 129 miles.... but; I had actually worked 10 hours........again: most dedicated do not get activity pay:::: so our perspective is quite a bit different from yours: and I totally understand both:::
    I respect both perspectives...
I try to do my job with a smile and kindness everywhere I go.. that’s important to me

Sounds like you should be a private fleet driver then.

Nope: not for me; I have a small dog that travels with me and I don’t want to share trucks... there’s reasons not all of us need or want to be private fleet drivers....:)

    foggy and 06driver Thank this.
