Hello, I have been planning on leaving my current job as a general manager of a pizza hut to apply for sponsored cdl training with a mega.

However, about 2 years ago i was involved in an accident where i was at fault but no citation was giving. Then 5 days ago i was on i-10 and an accident ahead caused everyone to slam on their brakes and i slammed on mine and tried to avoid but hit the person in front of me totaling my car. Initiallythe state trooper said he would not cite me then later saying that his supervisor said that he has too and he wrote me up for following too close in which i was. I was probably 2.5 car lengths behind them and really just could have reacted better.

I am a safe driver and was never involved in any accident prior to these 2 but my question is will this stop a mega company from hiring me on and putting me through their cdl school. Its got me pretty down because ive really been preparing for and set on a truck driving career for quite some time. Thanks in advance for any info or advice.

Where is your location? We need to know the hiring area you live in.
You may have to apply for the WIOA Program in your state. Sometimes people in your situation can qualify if they can find 2 or 3 companies that agree to hire them at graduation. That's called a "pre-hire letter" and we can give you a few companies that will probably hire you.

Hello china town. Thanks for the response. I live in southwest louisiana. I have researched many companies and was really set on prime. I just didnt include that bc i didnt want all of the prime bashers to show up lol i have heard it all already i do believe.

Also the citation for following too close is still pending. I havent pleaded guilty and paid it yet as the court date isnt until august so is there maybe some way i could go about stopping it from going on my record. I think a lawyer would be too costly for me at this time.

Try a driving school to get it reduced or removed. You can still go to one before you get your cdl.
Cdl holders aren't allowed to go to ticket schools anymore.
Being cited for following to close is ( can be) a job killer especially if it's the cause of an accident.

I will explore my options for stopping it from going on my record. It seems like id have a difficult time getting into prime with it on there. I did call a recruiter to ask and he said that if it wasnt reckless driving that it wouldnt disqualify me but he didnt seem to care or did he sound like he knew what he was talking about.

I hope it works out for you. But if anything, let this be a lesson to you. When you have that CDL, citations and accidents in your personal car can and will affect your CDL and your current and future driving jobs. Imagine if you had this lapse of judgement while behind the wheel of an 80,000 lbs truck ... not good. At fault rear end accidents in a semi will cost you your job and leave you a spot with the undesirable companies. You have to put yourself 10 notches above all the car drivers out there. Look way down the road at what is happening. Try and expect what cars ahead of you are going to do before they even know what they're going to do. Im not bashing you, everyone makes mistakes, and you havent been behind the wheel of a big truck to really understand how much damage they could potentially do if you lose focus for a couple seconds.

    Good luck.

Definitely a lesson very well learned. If you could see the maw maw ive become behind the wheel since it happened lol.

I think for almost an entire year now ive been planning on going for this change in career and have prepared in every way then this happens right before i apply. Ohhh it sucks. Im not going to give up on it but it sure will make it alot harder.

Well i spoke with the DA's office this morning and it looks like that because it was involving an accident i wont be eligible to take the driving course to get it removed.
