My 2 cents. Buy old truck with rebuilt parts and bits.
Do you need electric logging down under?
Do you have a good mechanic That is trustworthy?
Series 60 or N14, or CAT 3406, are proven technology.

I've been driving over 20 years and still drive FOR O/O's.... almost made the quantum leap but... nope. Too old to play the field, so to speak.

    Great advice, Daf.

Thanks mate. I didn’t know that service existed. It is certainly worth considering.

    Cheers

I think I like the idea of being an O/O because then I can have SOME control over things, set the truck up how I want it and continue to developer and mod it the way I want and keep it that way and take more pride in the prime mover and my work as aposed to just being treated like another number with the masses. Maybe I am being delusional! I grew up withrole models who cherished their rigs and the way they were presented. Maybe those days are gone. Having known people who own and operated freight companies, I know how people are treated like #### by them. I started as a loader as a second job in fright as a kid , was offered the easy path as an employee of the family connections but said no to make my own way in my previous industry. All I really want is :
A regular run from points to point b
    A nice truck to drive
No manual handling of freight( busted body)
And to be paid on time while making a profit that won’t send me broke
No bosses looking over my shoulder and slinging me ####( too old and too smart to cop that stuff from idiots)
A night time overnight regular drive!
Now, I do expect to hear” that ain’t gonna happen idiot”.
But I DO want to hear your very appreciated and honest opinions.
Anyone want to be employed to run my trucks and teach me the ropes ?
    Just an idea
Another quick question! Do companies dictate what year trucks O/O drive?

    Maybe above IS un achievable?

Not sure about the logging mate. I haven’t worked in that industry. I have a great truck mechanic and am very handy with engineering and mechanical/ electrical and hydraulic systems and fault finding . The point is that I could walk around in my old job earning plenty and not getting dirty or over tired. But what is the fun in that when I have always wanted to operate large machines with the only ones left that I haven’t are prime movers .

I should have said do you use paper log booking, down under? Or how do you record driving time? Are you wanting to drive long trips?

Depends on the industry I'm a Fuel hauler and we have very strict rules and regulations on top of the already strict transport industry regulations. Every day i must log into a electronic device that records my speeds and the time i spend driving if i go over a certain speed i get pinged this is more about the fuel companies wanting to know why a driver is over speeding. With our breaks the computer will remind you when time is up usually i'll take a break before that happens anyway. On top of all that i must also record a daily paper log as well. Thank goodness i'm not an O/O cause on top of all that baloney i'd also have to then service my truck pay all the bills and collect all the money no thanks. Freedom what freedom does a O/O really have maybe freedom from a boss and that's about it.
