So now they’ve cut their demands in half and want you to come back to them?
Lonesome Thanks this. -
I like Crete because I’m paid 49 CPM. I should’ve given someone the $1000 referral bonus.

As others have mentioned, when you start with a new company they hand you a large stack of forms to sign and initial. Anybody who doesn't read every single word of those forms (and understands what they mean) is setting themselves up for huge problems.
I started with a smaller sized company 2 years ago. I liked the idea of working for a company that wasn't a Mega and actually knew my name. There were only 40 trucks in their fleet and they were regional. Among the things I was asked to sign at my orientation was a piece of paper with some obscure legal jargon on it that I had to read a few times to understand. What I finally figured out that it said I was personally responsible for any physical damage to the truck/trailer or other property damage to others if an accident was deemed to be my fault. I wrote a big X through the paper, and the word REFUSED at the top and signed my name next to that. Placed it on top of the stack of forms and told the hiring manager "thanks for your time, sorry it didn't work out" and I walked out the door. He ran after me asking what what wrong, and I said no idiot in his right mind would sign that form, and I would never work for a company that asked their drivers to sign it. He assured me it was something their insurance company had just started asking for, and I was the first driver they had shown it to. I reluctantly agreed to hire on, but I kept a close eye on how they did business. Any company willing to do that, would throw a driver under a bus if things got bad. I later found out through other drivers that these guys were scum and had been using that form for 10 years with new drivers. Every driver I talked to had no idea they had signed it.
Every driver I talked to in the company I made aware that they had signed their lives away, and 4 drivers wound up leaving because of it. Even though it was a small company, they had the same (or worse) BS procedures as the Mega carriers. I'm currently in the process of getting my own authority and getting a new truck and trailer. I've already convinced a few of my former employers customers that are local to me to give me enough business to keep me busy for a long time. Can't wait to get started.Oldironfan, LoneCowboy and Lonesome Thank this. -
UPDATE
Got a call back from CCC about 3 weeks ago. They still want me to pay half. I'm looking for another driving job, preferably something dedicated in Texas (Texas rules), something that won't force me to sign any responsibility-sluff-off papers. I'm not paying for any truck repairs. Ever. Anybody got a bead on a driving job in Texas, a job that stays in Texas and allows me to drive Texas rules, solely? I may be in my twilight with trucking here, but I'll give it a good go one more time.Oldironfan Thanks this. -
Texas has it's own rules? Do tell!

Get an LTL job. Stay away from the road outfits.
