I don't think any driver is going to know every terminal. You'd probably have to ask an executive to get the correct answer. But I know the absolute majority do have them. Is there a tiny terminal near a hub that doesn't need any? Probably. But most have at least a few.

For the most Park yes. If they don’t, they can always add an extra board driver. I knew a guy from Waterloo. He asked to become an extra board driver, making him the only one from that terminal.

I’m looking at Estes. They are hiring for this OTR Regional gig as well where I’m relocating at the end of this year. My wife knows it’ll suck to have me out 5 days but I barely see them during the week now. By the time I get home, I’m usually back in 10-11 so it’s bedtime by 5 pm to get up around midnight. I’d probably get better sleep in a hotel with the infant and toddler. I suppose I’d have to pay my dues until I got a bid. They bid every year?

They do bid yearly, and sometimes bid runs come up before then. Depending on you location and how many drivers they have and turn over will be a big factor on if you can get a bid run or not. I’m out of Nashville and new, already there are drivers below me and at the start of the year a lot of runs will be created with exapansion, this will also open some runs for other terminals in the region.

I can tell you coming from a position I was only home about 8 hours a day, this is way better even being out 5, I’m not so tired on my days off at home! So far I am very happy at Estes!

I’ve read on these threads that insurance for a family is around $280 a month? Sound about right?

Seems like you could make some good money on the extra board. The terminal would be just about 3-5 miles away and we could ultimately ditch my car and save more money not having another car payment. It’s not ideal but I’m sure I’d get more rest and be better suited for my days off with the family. Stick it out until a bid opens up.
