Need some advice on a CRST truck lease

I forgot to mention that Malone offers a very sizable recruitment bonus to people that talk you into signing on with them. Be VERY leery of anything these people tell you about the company. Especially if they give you anything like their name, any sort of numbers and/or attempt to talk to you in private and/or off TTR.

 

Virtually every carrier gives a generous recruitment bonus.

All I know is the guys who are in my lane have been there for a while and are making money. Some of them have looked to go elsewhere, but wound up staying on. Most of them would say that your experience there was not typical.

 

But it's a dollar a mile! Just think how rich this kid will get!

 

Plenty of threads here, as well as my own experience paint a much different picture. Malone has the highest bonus I've ever seen. There's a reason they pay your fuel to get to orientation.

 

Say what you want about Malone, but we don't get paid mileage, we get paid a percentage of what the load pays. I don't know what other carriers get. I'm on a load that pays close to $3 a mile all in, to the truck.

 

Single no bills, but no other way to get a truck? But still want one bad? Get in do what you have to. Save save save then save some more. After a year maybe year and a half. Take all that savings then go buy your own. (You'd be surprised what a LARGE down payment can buy or get over looked)

 

I have a friend that leased on with them. It's been a couple of years since he worked there so maybe things have changed. He had me call the recruiters on 3 way to ask all of the questions. They take the trucks that run dry van teams and turn them to flatbed lease trucks. Young trucks in terms of manufacture date, but old in terms of running and mileage. 3 year old trucks with well over 600K miles on it. His truck note was cheap, no forced dispatch, but he told the kicker was to run loads with their customers. He ended up in 3 trucks because he kept breaking down, with trucks that have that much wear, that's possible. He had inconsistent weeks, but he wasn't exactly the hardest worker either. After I talked to the recruiter for him, I told if there were other options I'd look elsewhere. That's just me though. The fact is however long you stay out whether it's a week or three, you better grind...or else your paychecks will be meager

 

Not all l/p is bad, I have a quality truck and you can run it any wear you want, it is expensive yes, but like what you are saying, each is own but I make good money we're I am

 

I understand that whatever happened to you was a bad experience. I would like to tell a story I think puts things in perspective.

When I went to orientation there was only 1 other o/o, so we hung out together because we weren't in the motel. We both bobtailed over to Iowa80 for our inspections. Mine passed, his needed. Work. Even after the work and a clean inspection, he was DOTed on his first dispatch that ended up with 75 points of violations, approximately 35 on the trailer. They terminated his contract because their limit is 74 points in one inspection. He felt he was getting a raw deal because without the trailer points, he would have been under their threshold. Further, these 35 points were for things that are easily missed during a competent pre-trip.

The problem is why the state of Missouri invited him round back to be inspected. You see, he missed his exit, and had to cross the scale to get to his receiver. Then he didn't want the temporary plate that gets taped in the window, he didn't want that blocking his view, so he didn't tape it there. He crossed the scale not showing the truck was registered. So they invite him to show his paperwork, and, in my opinion, if you're too stupid to put a plate on the truck, maybe you're too stupid to do a decent pre-trip.

Now, he has a beef with Malone, but who's fault is it?
