I have a camera with WiFi as an option depending on which module you attach to it, I believe it could be an asset in your defense if involved in an accident, it would probably record location, time, speed etc, but that being said could also be used against you, so I have not used it, right or wrong

It makes quick transfers of clips to your laptop or phone a bit easier without having to pull out the card and transfer that way. Also, you can wirelessly perform various (save a clip, change record mode, modify settings, etc) functions on a camera that's otherwise out of reach.

Yes there are apps you can use to live stream your phone as a dashcam.

    Three reasons.

    1) You can connect to the cam in the windshield with the included phone (or tablet) app via wifi and display an incident video to another driver or a cop without pulling the camera out of the windshield or pulling the card out of the camera to show it on a laptop. (you need to be no more than about 20 - 30 feet from the cam for this "live link" to work.

    2) You can back up a snippet (say 5 minutes for example) wireless to your phone or tablet to make sure that you son't lose a particular knucklehead incident from the actual camera card.

    3) You can install a free cloud (like One Drive, DropBox, Google Drive, iCloud, etc) on your mobile device. Any video snippets that you pull over wirelessly from the dash cam can be saved in your cloud folder which will UPLOAD it. Then you can send a link to that snippet to your spouse, the cops, insurance company, boss, etc right away. Typical videos are too big for email, but not too big for a free 5Gig or 10Gig cloud account.

Our newest cam is wifi for exactly those reasons and can go to even higher "license plate resolution" at 2K hi def. I just have been too busy to change the site from the out of stock DB4 Dual, to the new DB5 Dual-HD-WiFi.

Hope that helps. To me, those would be the reasons that would answer your original question.

I wish I had known about your three camera DVR systems before I plunked down $900 for three useless and unreliable go pro cameras.

Less than a year old and only one is still working.

I think many here tried to tell you GoPro was not the way to go for dash cam setup. They're great action cam systems and have a few other unique applications but 24/7 dash cam application isn't on it's list of capabilities.
