I just got this coverage from progressive last month. it's a non commercial liability plan. and believe it or not it's cheaper to take the plan that allows you to pull a trailer then it is to take a plan for truck only.

liability only and with a 50 mile radius my cost is $220 down and three more payments of $175 for a 6 mo policy.

they will allow you to travel outside the 50 mile up to 4 times a year but you need to notify them when you do. I only took the policy to be able to drive around to shops. they will convert it to a bobtail policy when i get leased on. You have to have a signed lease agreement or your own authority to get a bobtail or unlaiden liability policy

Pharmphail, I was wondering which insurance co. you got your quote from? The quotes you posted seem a little more reasonable.
    TIA

What is your definition of an O/Op?

A lease op, the company the truck is leased to carries the insurance in regards to cargo.

And independent O/Op carries his own cargo insurance.

And one trip loads? What are you looking to do and haul?

My guess would be, if you are renting a truck for a single haul, like through ryder, then you would get the insurance from them. If it's your truck, you're either insured for the type of cargo or you're not. If not, don't pull it, or add it.

A rental from Ryder or Penske will only carry the collision on the tractor. You are still responsible for your cargo insurance. And yes, they will check. At least in my case that is how it went.
