    Is there any easily accessilble statistics that would help me understand how many owner -operator could possibly be affected by this initiative?

    Ballpark?

    I am trying to get myself more educated on this particular issue right now and because I drive my full HOS I have limited time available to research.

    I received some articles from OOIDA explaining the issue but I was hoping to make some comparable numbers of how O/O might be affected.

    I'd appreciate any information.

    CARB supposedly extended the 2010 cut-off to upgrade but, for fleets of 5 or less.
    The rub is that if you sign on with a trucking outfit that has say 5 trucks, you technically are #6 and the same thing applies going through a broker who "runs" more than 5 trucks. At that point, you'll need a 2007 or newer by Sept.

    Several dump truck brokers won't take any rigs older than a 2004 and many cut-off at 2007, which is stupid because as we all know, "An old truck makes the same as a new truck". So why would a vocational O/O invest in a new rig?

    CARB originally mandated an old rig like my '97 could be retro-fitted.
    Then CARB said "No, we want you to drop a new engine with a DPF". Now it's "Buy or new rig or you can't run in CA period".


    Add to that..the "Idle Police" are out at the truck stops and the rest stops ready to "brighten your day" when you try to stay warm or stay cool, or even use the engine to run your inverter.

    BTW, the chart up there was the old guideline that came out last year.
    It's just a reference point now.

    Thanks for you quick reply. I'd like to use parts of of for a letter. I'm working on something but my limited time & access is a factor.I have 3 articles provided to me from OOIDA & Land Line.I'm trying to put a face on it & educate myself at the same time.I'm using some resources I have & I can use anyone who has time to help me put some facts together.May I have permission to use some of your words then?
