    Hi everyone,

Regarding the pet policy with Melton, I'm hoping for some expanded information. Is anyone aware of any restrictions for when I would be allowed to have a dog onboard after completing training. (I will be a recent grad and will have to go through the 3+ week training program.) I'd like to send in the completed pet/rider pass once I have completed training and assigned my own truck so that I would be able to bring my dog after my 1st trip home as a solo driver. I know this is probably viewed as not a high priority for some, but I am a 25 y/o single guy, with not a thing tying me down other than my dog. Finding someone to watch her for the initial month of orientation/training is not an issue but anything longer than that would be difficult.

After 2 years of researching the industry and making sure I was making the right decision to leave my monotonous 8-5 office job, this is the last thing that I am looking to figure out before starting CDL school next month. As i mentioned, it may seem that my priorities are wack but I have very little family and have been living alone for the past 3 years... my dog has become my other half.

If the best answer is "ask a recruiter" then I will do so, but I'm not quite ready for them to be calling/texting me everyday as they previously were when I first started looking into truck driving.

    This is from their site
    “Pet Policy
    • You can have one (1) pet on the truck.
    • Accepted Pets: Any dog that is 80 lbs or less OR a cat.
    • A pet deposit of $750.00 is required to have a pet on board and will be deducted from your paycheck each week at $37.50 until the pet deposit is paid in full.
    • You must have a Pet Pass approved by Safety before your pet can be on the truck.”
Not sure if that helps or not or if you’ve already seen it.

You can take a pet out with you the day you get your own truck. Supposedly some of the trainers even have a pet with them so for the 3 weeks it might be you, the trainer and their pet. I’m a few days away from getting a trainer myself so I will let you know in a few days if you want.

Hey MrArtixx, thanks for the info! Would love to hear how it goes for you. Melton is still my number 1 choice at the moment.

I actually left Melton today. I found out firsthand that flatbedding is not for me. However, they are a very good company and I never had an issue with them. I just didn’t want to do all the tarping and climbing on loads when the traps are wet or Icey.

Sandavls, mack0244 and Oldironfan Thank this.
