wait a minute, I have macks?

they make up 60% of the fleet.

so I am supposed to have all the same issues with them as a volvo owner has with their d13?

OK I am going to call Mack at their HQ and demand they fix my trucks so I can have the same issues with my trucks with their engines as does Volvo d13s.

God am I stupid to think that Mack may have been a better producer of engines.

macks are ok I have been driving a 2014 mack pinnacle with a mp8 almost 500k hauling tankers the only issue its a oil filter that cost around 1k that you don't change never but like a mechanic said its a volvo with a different dress, fully loaded I can take all the hills in pa(6.3 mpg) with no problem. but once you hit flat lands 7.5 to 8.1 fully loaded at 68 cruising speed. they can be serviced by macks and volvo mechanics

Owned an 11 Detroit dd15 almost bankrupted me. 4mpg it regenned every 200 kms. It was terrible. A friend had an 11 Cummins. At 500k kms it was shot. After a large battle they replaced it under warranty but up to that Pointe his down time and towing was crazy. Almost bankrupted him.
I bought a 13 Volvo d13 I shift. Sold it at 730k kms NOT A SINGLE ENGINE PROBLEM. (Same engine as mp8). I don't idle my trucks and I maintain and take care of them. I sold my 780 and was off for a year for a family situation or I would still have it.
    My .02c
    don't buy ANYTHING between 8-12
I wouldn't touch a Cummins too many soot issues and cam issues and they don't seem to make 750k kms
Good Detroit seem to be trouble free but get a bad one? Company I work for now has lots of Cascadia. Veritas years up to 16. Still lots of issues, have lots of friends with newer Volvo and they don't seem to have the issue's.
I bought a used 12 Columbia glider for my last truck. No electronics, no emissions, 8mpg and cheap as heck to fix.

Lol yeah literally same parts from the same engine line. Best thing Volvo did was put that Mack motor under the hood, disguised in green paint.

Mechanically, there's literally no difference other than color and badging. My good friend had been building them in Hagerstown for two decades.

The ECM programming is slightly different but not by much.

    Tell your friend thank you.

Ive always loved Macks. Those are one trucks that have done things that probably will break any normal OTR tractor. Excessive weights to Off Road flying in the air.

My father in law sold used Mack DM and RD dump trucks to Panamanians years ago.Since there are no weight limits over there and dump trucks are filled until there is no space left Most all trucks broke their frame, but not the DM’s or RD’s.

So far been better than I expected. Had macks since 2007 and a bunch of million mile trucks still in the fleet.
The biggest issue I have is with turbos and cac, and firmware (which was in the past).
