Prime example of why Swift Drivers have the reputation they do!

It doesn't matter what company. When you have a company that uses drivers with only 6 months experience as drivers trainers you're going to see results like this. I'm sure if any driver went over to that truck and tried to reason why he should not park that way it would fall on deaf ears. Swift is known as a bottom feeder along with a few others. Truck drivers from other companies did not give them that label they did it to themselves. I don't think I would have approached the truck. I would have parked right behind them at 90° so they'd have to wait on me. Then maybe they'd get the idea. I wouldn't leave the truck that way and I would only park like that so they would come to me. If Swift wants to change their reputation then they need to do it themselves. I wonder if they have any safety meetings to discuss problems or do they have the attitude of them agains't the others?

 

Swift has Award winning drivers. This guy musta been trainer of the year.

 

What I dont understand is how a person can do something like this and have not a care in the world about the potential problems it may cause.
Heck, I usually do more pullups AFTER I am in the parking slot...to make sure I am centered and wont interfere with another driver backing in. Ive even slid my tandems all the way forward(after backed in of course) to give other drivers more of an 'approach' angle for when they back in.
Im still young and Im still a n00b, but I simpily cant understand how someone could have so much disregard for other people. This is not only in trucking, but in our daily lives.

 

I think that was just pathetic of a trainer to just let his trainee to park like that...It really doesn't matter what company he works for...he's a moron! My instructor would have pushed me out of the truck if I ever parked like that ! I wish I could have been in the cab of that truck to hear what was said when he parked there...probably nothing...."right here is perfect,put on the parking brakes"...LOL..

 

Well I think you have all covered everything that was wrong here, the trainer (please people they are MENTORS with swift, you know the one who is to be the inspiration for your future) anyway...the mentor here was probably a lazy one, this perfect practice location was passed by add to this he probably told his student what an ######## the approaching driver was for getting into his business.

However wrong the mentor was, is now profounded by all of you not thinking back when you were a student trying to learn from mistakes made and witnessed by yourself and other drivers. Those of you who admitted you learned from your mistakes while a noobie, here is a big ATTABOY for you. Those of you who are always ready to attack any other driver who makes a mistake, SHAME on you.

Did anyone ever think that it is all of our responsibilities to help another driver, or another driver/trainer, or even a mentor, whenever the situation arises. Though it may not be written in any book, rule, or regulation, the point is we all need to helpeach other out there.

Myself I still get out and help any driver that is having trouble, backing, adjusting tandems, directions, it doesn't matter what the situation is. And it doesn't matter to me what company the driver is driving for. To top it off, I am still learning something new every single day I drive. This is after 14 years of driving a big rig.

So please stop bashing and start showing some concern for the newbies out there, they need more help from all of us, not just their trainer or mentor whichever the case may be.

 

Not everyone has to make a mistake in order to learn something. This person(trainer) SHOULD have known that what they did wasnt right. Maybe they did know(I hope so), but they just didnt care. Im inclined to believe they just didnt care.
Either way, there is NO excuse for this. Its not even a rookie mistake.

 

I agree with you, I do hope he knew it wasn't right. but worse case is he might have been taught that by his mentor/trainer, even a bigger wrong now since the wrong is growing in numbers.

I did say he was probably one of those lazy mentors that won't let his student do backing even in this wide open arena, since he is always in such a hurry to get to point 'b' and wait for his next assignment. And while waiting not taking advantage of the opportunity to teach and allow practice and/or guidance.

Oh yes, hey (Brink) Brickman, just because the truck is blue doesn't make it an O/O or L/O truck, got to see the numbers to know for sure. Many of the failed lease trucks are now running on the company side. Just FYI

 

O.K. Truckers. I am in school and brand new to the industry. With the economy in the shape it is, I just wanted to know how it is affecting the truck industry. How many of you are taking mileage cuts, how many miles/week or month. Just want to know how bad is it. I have orientation with Roehl Transport in march. what am i getting into.

 

Well I've been driving for JB for ten years now. I guess if I'm stuck with only running 2000 miles a week I'd rather be making 44 cents a mile than 32.

When I first came here, back in the cabover days, another old timer who had been here a while told me "working for JB is great! When I pull into the truck stop and start to back into my spot, everyone in the restaurant drops their forks and comes running out to the parking lot to move their trucks out of my way."
