And why should they? They are required by law to stop 30 minutes every 11 sometime.
I would not be surprised to see them require cash up front before your truck is allowed onto the property at all excluding fuel purchasing. That means they will have to actually put up gaurdshacks and pay people to shoo off truckers who just wanna park 30 minutes free.
TA changing to all paid parking??

In gasoline at the two seperate stations I worked at the owners have confided back then it's about 4 to 7 cents a gallon usually after everything else has been paid as cost including wages. If they sold 7000 gallons today they pocket maybe 3 to 500 dollars give or take. Everything else will go into fuel taxes, wholesale cost of the gasoline etc.
Tough to make a living on 300 dollars a day.Oldironfan Thanks this. -
I understand they are a business and need to show a profit. However, the lack of upkeep suggests that the extremely high markups of goods in the stores isn’t being reinvested in the business. The shareholders are thrilled at the drivers’ expense. Nice profit margins and horrible services.
If they want us to pay for parking, how about paving the lots, emptying the garbage, and cleaning the premises? Pressure wash the parking lot once a month. Paint the parking lines and enforce the no parking zones.
Right now, TA-Petro is not worth a dime for parking. You want my money, show me the value in paying to park there.classic_150, Pete jockey, d281833 and 8 others Thank this. -
Most TA's I've been to are always stinky.
You can smell #### all the way to the fuel counter. So, naturally, I avoid them.WildTiger1990, DTP and 06driver Thank this. -
And during the daytime they rarely enforce reserved spots.Oldironfan Thanks this. -
And as wages have stayed flat it is neccessary for a lot of company drivers to eat cheap microwave meals than restaurants.
But yeah most of them smell to high heaven. Hell I stopped at a Pilot for the first time in a while at Simponsville,Ky. Not enough money (or bleach) in the world to make me walk across that parking lot. I just went to the rest area up the road instead. -
TA started sucking when they changed their name from Truckstops of America to Travel centers of America. As they have alienated drivers more and more in lue of what comes through the front door drivers have been less and less eager to spend money there. And as they have bought up more and more good truck stops and ruined them, drivers have become even more disinterested. Their answer to the problem? Charge more, which in turn drives even more truckers away. Their answer to that? Charge even more.
Western flyer, TruckChicken, 06driver and 2 others Thank this. -
TA is so out of touch it’s pathetic. Their stores look like a walk down memory lane in 1965, the restaurants have either been eliminated completely or at least everything good on the menu has, fuel is higher, the entire premises is always dirtier than the competition. Workers are generally miserable and unfriendly. It’s just a blast from start to finish...
06driver and TheyCallMeDave Thank this. -
