The point I'm trying to make is that truckers should not have to work long ridiculous hours to make a living but for some reason, I find myself on the defensive here. FLABBERGASTED. I'm not saying we should be making $250 per hours, I'm saying truckers should be making more for less work.
    I make $34/hour. $51/hour after 8 hours. $68/hour after 12 hours. $85/hour if it's a holiday.
Don't you guys think that's pretty good or are you happy with .35 cents per mile? Am I really wrong for demanding more pay instead of more hours?

HOS and ELD took the cattle prod out of the drivers ars and stuck it squarely in his ear. It helped reduce the burden of unreasonable demands ie... unreasonable delivery times and dates, and, through regulation forces drivers to get proper rest.

Of coarse there are those whom would argue that they should be free to run without the shackles of electronic lie detectors.

"THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY and I SHOULD BE ABLE TO RUN AS HARD AND LONG AS I WANT!!!"

My answer to that is, no you should not. The reason as I see it is this. It seems that a few of us have been very stupid. They have pushed and pushed foolishly, greedily and dangerously and produced some horrible results. We all know what they are. So... as a result, those few have incurred the rath of mankind upon all of us and brought to bare these rules that make all of us a little (in some cases a lot) more responsible and likely a little safer on the highway.

Does it keep everyone honest?? Nope! But I don't break in to the cold sweats when I visit the boys in the DOT.

Chastise if you want, curse me if you will.. The fact is that the technology is available and a level headed approach has be taken to protect us from OURSELVES and the unreasonable demands by unreasonable people to do unreasonable things, thereby making the trucking industry a better place to earn a decent living. It's been a long time coming.

Making money by cheating 'a little' is one thing but, when it endangers the lives of others it is completely immoral and unacceptable.

Studies show that after 14 hours on "task", mistakes start to happen faster and bigger. Hence the 14 hour rule. They are fully aware that in 14 hours, you have to stop and eat, or use the bathroom, or load or unload, do your walk arounds, etc, so they give 3 hours for that. Then, like any other industry, they mandate a break for lunch, or else the corporations would not give us that break.
Then ppl complain because they think they should be allowed to run more hours, or take a break in the middle. If you could be trusted to be actually taking a break, and not just loggin off duty while at the customer, then great. But too many ppl break the rules. Too many had double log books before elds. Too many dead children from tired drivers. Too many disabled mothers from tired drivers. Too many dead fathers. We are in control of 80 thousand pounds of DEADLY force in motion!!! The bad guys need to be policed, hence there needs to be rules.
If you don't like the rules, then you are being offered an opportunity to express your opinion. If enough of you have the same opinion, then the rules will be changed If no one voices their opinion to the people who are in charge of making the rules, then you're just blowing hot air out your ### here on the forum. Those of us who are willing to live with the rules are getting real tired of the whining, and if you don't go complain to FMSCA NOW, then we don't want to ####ing hear it anymore!!
