Just completed my 4th day of CDL school and all I know is how to properly get in the truck!! 3 days is a joke. No way you could be ready for a DMV test.

3 day courses are intended for people who already have experience and have either lost their CDL (sometimes medical or other reasons) or let it go. Or for people who got out of the industry and want to return years later.

They are not intended for people fresh to the industry. There is too much about driving a truck that just can't be taught in 3 days. If you try to do this, whatever your reasoning may be, you will be setting yourself up for failure. I highly recommend a more in depth training program instead.

NTB is up your way. You must have a CDL, but they are still gonna put you thru 4 to 6 weeks of their own training.

Just an FYI.... I think Mid Mich 3 day course is a refresher. When I took my refresher at TrainCo, it was 40 hours over 4 days. I tested on the 5th. TrainCo is a MI state tester. I was One on One with a trainer. But I had 19 years prior experience 1988 to 2007. I had left driving for 8 1/2 years.... So I had to knock off the rust. Get my CDL back ( I'd let it go )
Than the carrier I'm with, gave me another 4 weeks plus ~9 days of securement training for FlatBed.

You can be quite successful with a CDL mill program. The key is to get a foot in the door driving for a real company, immediately---and I do mean immediately -- upon graduation. Any company. Anyplace at all that will take you. Driving for a bottom feeder will be immensely better for your driving career than getting a CDL from the best school. Bounce after 6 months to 1 year.Make sure you can actually get a job after this program.

That’s exactly what I did years ago Once you get CDL as mentioned Company that hires you will want to train you more before turning you loose.

That’s a great Idea right there. I’ve Brokered Loads from them in past and ran with their Drivers. Great place to start out and maybe stay. Might have to run toad a bit for a while. Don’t know personally. I can say they seem like pretty Good People to me

You didn’t mention the cost of 3 day school.I was in similar situation had taken all the written after studying CDL manual. Had all endorsements except bus. I considered a 3 week course for $3500 . Back then I could take test 35 times for that much. Took Test at Melody Farms in Livonia. They would rent you the Truck for an extra $50 . Long waiting list at time.Dont know if they or if there are any Third party testers that will rent you the Truck anymore. My father let me use his (Company Truck !) for test. Luckily all went well. Tester was safety man offered me a job after I had 6 mo.experience. I got lucky and the first place I applied to was probably the only place in town that would hire me.Like you I did not want to run road at time.Things have changed a lot since then. Three day course may Be waste of $$ . Better as said Community College usually best price. And may help you get hired easier.Either way you go best to have a good understanding of what’s involved either through your friends help or a school. Your probably goona pay one way or another at least for the first year. Good Luck
