truck is pre-wired but i don't think there is an antenna built in on the truck, all i hear is static and the occasional weak voice when i crest a hill. white noise is soothing. i heard someone sing today WAY DOWN YONDER ON THE CHATTAHOOCHEE IT GETS HOTTER THAN A HOOTcHIE COOCHIE. the day had taken the toll on that guy i think by that point.
i bought a CB today after 3 years of using hand signals

You don't think there is a antenna built in on the truck?
You don't see a 2 or 3 or 4 foot antenna sticking up anywhere?........Antenna's are not invisible...
"If you don't see a antenna, then there's not one hooked-up!" -
Jazz1 and rabbiporkchop Thank this.

it is prewired with the power connections and a coaxle cable, plugged those in and get a bunch of static and the occasional weak broken transmissions. the roof has a few black knobs on it (XM antennas??) but no tall CB antennas.

Hirschmann Thin Film Antenna (embedded in cap overhead on latest Cascadia).
I used it in a 2018. Was good for a couple of miles where radio had proper align/tune.
Mirror mount best way to go; using a 7’ Skipshooter produces good results. (10-15/miles with very good radio; comes down to other man’s rig).
Coax can be run thru door seal. Power at fuse box feed.rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
I think more info is needed here on what truck the OP has.

"Hirschmann Thin Film Antenna" sounds like metal foil material implanted behind the composite body . Is it horizontal following the roof line, or does it run up the side from the floor to the roof, or both? This type of antenna might be good for close-in communications at loading docks and such, but not so good when trying to get road reports a few miles away?
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
I looked at website. Metal in some shape in plastic
Your assessment about right. All it’s really good for is across a parking lot. -
Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this.
