Why would you keep the inside warm all weekend with no one in it?

You don't. You heat the engine coolant. This keeps the engine block warm. As soon as you start the truck, the already warm coolant circulates through the heater core in the cab and gives you instant heat out the vents.

With the coolant heater you can get a blower control module also. When the coolant has reached it's set temperature it'll start blowing hot air out your truck vents to defrost the windows and heat the cab.

Why would you want the expense of keeping the block warm all night/weekend if no one is in it?

They have timers. I used to set the one in my service truck to come on 2 hours before work.

Its not common to see on trucks but industrial engines that run unattended often have safety switches for stuff like fluid levels, oil pressure and coolant tempetatures. It wouldn't be too hard to install those onto a truck, just extra costs.

    Oxbow and Ruthless Thank this.
