What does swr mean? My antennas swr goes down when both antennas bend and not see each other. Does this mean that they are too close?

Im gonna say that im not a ant nor radio tech nor do i know it all like some in these threads think..As far as i understand it when two ant are to close they fight one another for tx..
Now in my case i run 1 ant(7ft skip shooter)but i just had an idea..Maybe run the 2nd twards the back end of the cab but not on back wall..
There are fellas here who could go into detail on all this but thats all above my pay grade..lol

Start with k0bg.com..........swr is basically not much more than sayin how happy radio is with ant placement..Has almost zero to do with how well it works..

Any info helps man. My 7 ft antenna goes over the semi, so I'm thinking about just running one. I have extra coax so I think I might try it. I've also heard that the power divides between the antenna so it's better to just run one. Have you heard of this?

I dont know if it actually divides the power but the advantage is more signal rec on the other side with 2 ant and the trans pattern is a lil different vs one..
Passenger side if im correct is ment more for the stereo and tv and not so much radio....

    Oldironfan Thanks this.

A cb shop also told me that one antenna is for the music radio. I probably should of bought 2 6ft antennas so they couldn't see each other. Idk if they would also have to be over 102" apart event though they dont see eachother...

    Oldironfan Thanks this.

Swr is the reflected power headed back into the radio..Lower the swr the better but the diff in a 1.0(absolute best)vs say a 1.5 is like 4 watts out of a 100..So its not much..I think of it as a wasted power that can go out and mot back in..Then your splittin hairs on a cobra or something..As power increases then it becomes more and more important..Still doesnt change ant efficiency though..Thats all to do with ant itself, proper placement, ground plain, coax and its connections..
    Try this.....
Unscrew the ant from back of the radio..Connect one lead from a multi meter(set on ohms and lowest setting)to the barrel of that end and plug other lead into the power side of radios power plug....Unless it stays as a zero reading then your ant is grounded deciently..If you get a # other than zero, find out why..

More to it than i know but they still need to be 102 or the 108 apart..The length is what wver you can fit on that trk without taken out lights on the street poles and whippin jets across their bellys, plus the 13'6" legal limit..

    Oldironfan Thanks this.
