Any recommendations for a good winter sleeping bag that will keep me toasty that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. With winter around the corner I’m looking for a sleeping bag but don’t want to have to ask a store employee that doesn’t know which way is up what they recommend. Thanks

Cheap and good with sleeping bags is a term that doesn't really go together can you give a rough budget your looking to spend then we can go from there?

Get a really large oversize sleeping bag, so you can toss and turn in your sleep. Don't need an expensive one. I bought one at Walmart and the wife and I could both sleep in it with plenty of room.
The one marked "large" isn't really big enough, so look around for a really big one; jumbo or tandem.
Tandem might be too large if your bunk is narrow.
    Check Amazon.

Go to a military surplus store. I got one 20 years ago from the German army that works really nice and keeps me really warm.

Under $100 is what I’d like to spend as money doesn’t grow on trees.

This is the one I had just in case the bunk heater ever crapped out. Packs pretty small when not in use. Also look for some merino wool thermals to wear in your bag, they don’t get stinky even if you go to bed stinky.

Just go to a store where you can inspect the quality of the bag, washing instructions and size. If the stitching does not go completely through it will retain heat better. And them dang zippers, check to make sure they easy and work, a bar of soap along the zip every once in a while is good lube.
