What engine? If Cummins I’ll send you the link about how to protect yourself with warranty.

Ok, check out my due diligence:

Get to the dealership, start looking at the cascadia. All shiny and pretty, and not a lot of codes on the DDDL, just some AC ######## from a month ago. Ah, but wait:

The coolant tank inner walls are covered with black gunk! The coolant itself is cleanish, the clever ######## flushed it. But definitely oil in coolant, the oil cooler is going bad.

    And also:

This thingy is dancing back and forth while idling. Dont know what it is but I know it ain't right. Called my LA mechanic, and he says it means the fuel pump is going bad, another $2000.

So yeah, I walked away from this thing. Too bad, it still had a year and 100k miles of the fancy towing warranty left. Did I make the right decision? And how much of a discount would I have to ask for to make it worth it?

about pic# 1. There were oil or diesel inside before. you said the truck has 400k miles. honestly I don't believ it. Diesel goes into coolant after 500k miles and the oil goes into coolant after 750k miles..
about pic# 2. $900 repair if it is egr actuator malfunctioning

Nah, 400k is legit, both on dash odometer and in software. Guess it's an unlucky truck. But that dark covering in coolant tank is definitely bad, right? I'm not freaking out over nothing?

I would do relative compression test by using DiagnosticLink. It would show condition of internal important parts. did you find out who was previous owner? if this truck was on 50k oil changes you will need to put $2-3k on the truck.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

The previous owner was some small local outfit in Dallas, some three letter abbreviation, I forgot. I'm at freightliner now, checking out what they got.

As far as relative compression test, my DDDL is old, it sorta crashes if I ask it to do anything too weird. Mostly just good for reading codes and monitoring stuff. But I'll have to try it on the next truck. Is it pretty self explanatory as far as interpreting results?

If you buy a 2015 hope it has been inframed and updated internals and such, as many 2015 trucks had the problematic 2010 to 2014 issues. Like carbon packing, and fuel pump for Cummins. Def and injector issues for the rest.

pay freightliner to do relative compression test. IT'S WORTH TO DO IT. ALSO CHECK TO SEE THAT 2015 HAS OIL SUCTION MANIFOLD RECALL. SOME 2015 NEEDS SOFTWARES TO GET UPDATED. ITS RELATED TO REGEN .

that dark covering is nothing if you say coolant is clean. You will need $100 to change that coolant reservoir. Do not pay attention on it. Focus on more important things ))) Dig out what has been done under warranty. Check for leaks. Check to see any oil leaks under camshaft housing and near rear gear cover.
