Ok so I’m new to trucking and its gps counterparts. I bought a Garmin 780 LTMS. Actually this is my second one due to the first one routing me off the highway straight into the woods to get to Honda on the other side. So when I got the second one I thought that would be fixed but Nope. This one does the same and far worse. It has me making U turns mid road instead of taking jug handles sometimes or has me making super sharp rights thas virtually impossible with a truck let alone a car. It also takes longer routes when closer roads are available. This product is just junk. When plotting a new route after you last one it doesn’t calculate distance correctly because it has to find satellites again. Oh yeah also doesn’t reroute you for low bridge. Better off using my phone

You can go into your settings and tell it "no uturns" as well as specify your other routing preferences (such as "no tolls", etc...). Also, set your truck size/weight dimensions properly, and it'll avoid roads where it knows you won't fit or be legal. Keep in mind, though, that if you tell it you're 80,000#, it'll try to route you around 40-ton bridges...sometimes onto 10-ton side roads (because those side roads haven't been programmed with truck-specific info for size/weight). Have to use your head while following it.

Using Qualcomm, Garmin and Rand are all the same. Occasionally the routings are just insane: ex, taking you to closed and private road, taking you off the freeway just so it routes you back on freeway, taking you in a big circle even though your destination is right there on your right. It almost route me to Mexico when I was at Otay Mesa (these problems are for Rand 740). I own both Rand 740 and Garmin 785 and I can say for sure that the freeway routings are good but the street routings are so-so. You must double check with google satellite map instead of blindly go with the GPS.

Trust me, sometime it will tell you to go through truck restricted road when no other routing solution is available. Then when you are on that road, it will warn that you are in truck restricted road and stop routing. Lol.

Mapping is done by a 3rd party. You can buy 10 Garmins but until the new map update is loaded it wont be fixed. The good news is, it's supposed to be out this month. Never had mine try and do a u turn. Configure it for 75,000. Tell it you're a semi.

Don’t forget to set the length. If set too long, it won’t route you through some truck approved route. Set it like 60 or 62 feet or something. Don’t set 72 foot, you will regret it.

Yeah all those setting were done I do P/D for UPS LTL so I use different trailer sizes. I tend to leave it at 65 ft and 13'6 but it still does those goofy things. I understand to use common sense and read signs but for 400 bucks it should be better/ reliable.

Mine made me mad. I'm ltl as well and I run term to term and some times it wouldn't even route me to a terminal. I finally got mad and sold it.

Have you figured out a way to install the Google play store on the device (with play services, account manager, etc.) or are you just sideloading all the apps?
