Little did you know it’s just a standard one stick 18 speed. The 2 sticks is air switches. One is for the high and low splitter and the other is the high and low range range selector. It’s just a normal Eaton 18 speed one stick

Rookie here, honest question. Is there any advantage to the old 3 sticks? Are they more reliable than the 18 speed with one stick and 2 splitters built in that stick? Or is it just one of those older things that were harder to do that people take pride in?

Two or more sticks was before air operated transmissions. Shifting them could be a handful, or two.
Guys with the three sticks now just have them to look “cool”.
Has nothing to do with reliability. -
