Rental trucks

I have accounts setup with both but hadn’t rented from either. Their prices overall, but the rate per mile in particular is not feasible most of the time.

Penske was just in the office last week and said the 18 cents per mile on top of the base charge was not negotiable. I told them to get walkin.

 

If i remember correctly, the deal at a carrier i was leased to when i first bought my truck had a deal National lease. Rental sleepers ran $700/wk and .17cpm. Not horrible, but not great. They switched to national lease, because Ryder was killing them

 

When I had my truck painted, I went with the local International dealer(RWC). They are the cheapest in Phoenix, that being said, everyone know it and it is a little difficult trying to get a truck as they are usually rented out.

I have also rented from Vanguard, they are a little more expensive, but cheaper than Penske or Ryder. Trucks are also nicer.

 

I've rented from both penske and ryder. What do you want to know?

 

They may also require a hefty deposit. Pensky in OH wanted me to give them 10K deposit, another Pensky in Chicago, IL wanted 5K deposit. AIM National lease requested only 2000K so I rented from them. it was 925 per week and 24 c a mile.

 

Wow, that’s insanity.

I used to have a sweet heart deal at 500/wk and .12/mi but they have bumped me up to $700 and .12 for brand new KW 680 sleepers. No deposit. I honestly didn’t realize I have such a great deal with my local dealer. Maybe I shouldn’t ##### so much to them. LOL

Makes Penske and Ryder not look so bad. They were both $850/wk and .18/mi no deposit. I like to go ahead and establish accounts that way when I do need service and my go to is rented out I can fall into backup situations with no down time. Prob have 5 different companies on the trailer side.

The downtime and or having to do the deposit is killer especially some of these big companies can take forever.

Edit: Plus I have to add the unit to my insurance of course both liability and collision. That obviously adds up.

 

I was in Youngstown, OH area at the time and there had no equipment available, Ryder would not even pick up the phone so I rented Enterprise car and went to Chicago to rent a truck. I am thinking about getting a new truck as a replacement of the current one but I'll consider not getting rid of the old one and keeping it as a spare, it has a low resale value anyway...of course I need to find out if the insurance and IRP won't be too prohibitive. I hope it shouldn't be too bad with low mileage.

 

Nice, and if you felt frisky you could always passively advertise for a part time local driver. That way if you needed it you could jump in it and in the mean time it would be a means to slowly get your feet wet. I can’t help it man it’s just the way I think. lol.

Edit: Extra food for thought. Part time local guys you want to find retired drivers who want to drive to earn a little extra, have fun, or not be bored. Those are the gems in that area of hiring. Shhhh.
