I have also seen rates drop on AA@E freight. A few weeks ago we were averaging in the high threes. The last few loads have us just scraping by at $2.54/mile after the split. We just bought a new $7,500 hot tub and stuck it on the credit card and I thought it we would be able to pay for it with two loads but it ended up taking us three. Hard times have arrived.

Someone has to start the narrative the other way. Many thousands and thousands of people read these threads. I’m just saying the gold rush everyone has been reading about is over, for now.

That was from hot market maps here in the Midwest, but it’s similar all over the country. Then backed by real world experience of running trucks this week from MO to NJ and WI to NC and everywhere in between. Also brokering a handful going cross country and to Florida.

    Yep. You got it.

Yeah been hearing a lot of complaints out of TX. We don’t go there hardly ever but the word hasn’t been good.

True to an extent. My situation is different in regards to conditions as a whole. I’m not saying you can’t make great money right now. I’m saying the gravy train ship has sailed. So it’ll be especially difficult on new operators/greenhorns.

I wish you only the most success. Not gonna lie though I’ll get a little chuckle when your complaining in the future about how rough things are. It’s always easy to enter the market when its great and buy stupid crap like 7500 hot tubs and then when it’s bad enough people are going broke left and right your tune will be much different.

As a whole when your sitting in an office hearing phones ring and hearing calls being placed trying to book multiple trucks... you get a feeling for the conditions. If you post a truck and nobody calls = not good. If no loads are posted in an area and one pops up, you call immediately and sit on hold for 5 mins and it’s covered = not good. If you have a load you can’t cover yourself and you post it as a broker and your 3 phone lines instantly blow up and shut your system down then you know guys are desperate to book vs having to make calls to find trucks.

We hustle HARD and it takes some pretty bad conditions to affect our program at all. This week we felt it for the first time so thought I’d spread the word. Carry on though I know most of you are super truckers. lol :]

Maybe if you just run spot market freight. The rates def aren't what they were this past spring/summer but there is still plenty of good paying freight. We got lucky and hooked up with dedicated freight threw a broker. Its not what you know, but who you know.

I still have to agree with you. If your thinking about pulling the trigger for a truck and a wagon hold on a bit and see how this plays out

    Hurst Thanks this.

You're spot on. I sat Monday out in KC,MO. Terrible, never saw the board that empty, slim pickings all around. Got my one decent load WI to GA for tomorrow getting me home, then it's more depression trying to get out of Atlanta.

My suggestion would be to get on with Landstar, I hear they're the cat's meow for owner ops.
