$100k...you didn't say Rugerfan...you doing that as a company driver or an owner op?

I SURE hope for your sake that is as a company driver....or, your just working part time as an O/O.

Because if $100k is all you can make as an O/O, you aren't working very hard.

And, if you are working full time as an O/O, and all you can produce is $100k in a year, you have just proven my point about being limited by an ELD!

HA!!! I know the feeling. I was just out in Phoenix after having knee surgery...which now feels GREAT! Torn meniscus repair. Nothing too serious.

But, Dr and PT folks didn't want me walking carrying bags through O'Hare...you just never know what gate you are going to wind up there, plus, standing in line WAITING to get the royal search would have been too much for me to ask for my recently repaired knee.

So, they told me to schedule wheel chair service.

I got to O'Hare, got a ride in a wheelchair by a guy who I think used to fly a magic carpet in India...I couldn't understand a SINGLE word he was saying! He wheeled me up to the front of the TSA line, started to talking to me, I kept saying "What did you say?" "What do they want me to do?" If I was 15 years older, they'd have probably thought I was just a senile old man.

So, I get up from the chair like it was nothing, walk with no limp, throw my bags up on the belt, walk through the check point, shoes off like it was nothing.

I got searched for 30 minutes, to the point standing WAS making my knee hurt! Ali Baba was standing off looking sheepish. Again, no help whatsoever about what was going on.

The TSA agent kept explaining everything to me like I was clueless "OK, I'm going to run my hands down your body...I'm going to touch your buttocks and your groin area....if your not comfortable with me doing this here, we can go to a private room..."

I said to him "Are you going to pull my pants down and expose me to all these nice people?" He said "Ah...no sir." I said, "Then don't worry about it, do what you have to do so we can all get going, your'e just doing your job!"

They wiped me, my stuff, ...no TNT residue.

I learned from that point going forward, fake a bit of a limp and say "I just had knee surgery!"

The other porters at the airports I had to go through and come back were WAY better than Ali Baba. THEY put my bags on the belt, stood with me, got me through the TSA scrutiny.

It happens to me quite regularly going through WI, and, the weather doesn't have to be bad...one fatal accident or serious carnage, the WI DOT shuts I-90/39 DOWN for hours. I watched people turn around, go the wrong way and semi trucks BACKING down an entrance ramp to get off the darn interstate...and, of course no troopers lend any assistance to make sure there isn't another accident as a result.

And, when it DOES snow, forget it. I have been involved in one that took 3-4 hours before the road re-opened...and a few weeks later, there was one that was over 24 hours. And, that time there wasn't even an accident, they just deemed the roads "impassable" They had to bring snowmobiles in to bring people food, water, gas, diapers and transport sick people off the road. Isn't it there JOB to keep the road open? Or, at least figure out a way to close it down in an orderly fashion, not leave people STRANDED on it???! WTF?

Yes, I feel bad for the people who are tangled up in the wreckage, but, what about the THOUSANDS of people who are stuck behind them?

WI has some of the WORST constructions zones in the country, only to be outdone by PA. AR comes a close 3rd. OK and KS get notable mentions.

I really don't know what Rugerfan is talking about...I doubt he/she ever driven a semi on an interstate let alone cross country.

You have to learn to work the system lol

Depending on where my connector is, and how much time I have to make the next flight. I request wheel chair service.

I have a bad hip. So running the length of Denver airport, is not an option. But I can walk it if I can take a couple of brief breaks.

HA!!! Well, I have now learned that one very well! I told my wife from now on, I am requesting wheel chair service, at least in O'Hare. Like the young Vietnamese Hooker said in Full Metal Jacket repeatedly "IT TOO BIG!!!"

I feel sorry for the person who has to push my fat ###, especially if she is young, but, hey, it is there job! I give them a good tip, if they deserve it. They always do.

    Good night!

PS - I see you JUST joined the circus here! Congratulations!

Just watch your posts, they are monitored, I am on the "naughty" list for supposedly trying to recruit a driver...who actually approached ME looking for a job...and, I still contend, he was really just a troll trying to run a scam. Pump me for ID fraud. He lives in India....has no work visa to come here. So, how am I going to recruit him???

Whatever...it prevents me from being able to "chat" directly with you, or anyone else for that matter, assuming we wanted to do so privately.

I really have no interest in doing that...I don't "chat" with people anyway!!!

I come here, look for info and offer advice when and were I can or chip in with my own 2 cents.

    Monitor all they want lol
I’ve been here before, years ago. I see a few handles I remember.

I’m on a 34, and may not post again for days or weeks once I’m done. I really have better things to do lol

But I’ve been lurking for a few days doing some research. Figured I might as well join in and spread some wisdom.

And the last thing I want to do. Is recruit my own competition ;) It’s always feast or famine. I’m feasting right now. And I’m not inviting anyone to the table.

Ah...yes...hence you notice my "handle" on this board...I don't have an '07 KW or a 53' conestoga anymore. I don't know why I picked that name when I did...but, as you know, changing it means starting over. Not that being a "bobtail" member means much of anything, I try to respect everyone's opinion, no matter how long they have been on this board. I have a few that know me, so, I leave it...

I appreciate anyone who comes here to give their wisdom. This board has helped me on more than 2 occasions! ;)

I hear you on inviting your competition. I have tried to expand, didn't give it a real concerted effort. I will do better in the future. I am looking in the future to get out of spending so much time driving a truck and more time driving a desk. Eventually, we all need to "retire". I figure, I have a certain number of years, decades of experience I can lend, especially to those who want to become O/O and are unsure how.

This may not be the most conducive place to make that happen, but, it helps build the credibility story, and, gives me fodder to publish when I want.

The feasting is on...and, I think it will stay that way as long as the economy holds strong and fuel prices don't drop significantly. As long as the oil fields stay working strong, we will be too.

Same thing happened a few years ago...price of fuel kept going up, and so did the rates and work was in demand. Fuel prices fell drastically and it all came tumbling down shortly after behind it.

Guys who had 6 or 7 strong years in the oil fields suddenly found themselves without work...so, they came creeping into our backyard. Rates went WAY down, much less than what fuel did. It got rough there. Let's hope that doesn't happen again for a while.

I could use another 6 or 7 year good strong years.

I'm an early riser. So unless it involves a catwoman or a sexy witch, I'm typically home before 9.
