Blue Streak, was the obstacle course the sole issue here? Maybe they have tightened their standards. Everyone whether you were a seasoned Veteran, or a newbie had to score a minimum of 40 (out of 180 possible) on the obstacle course in order to pass. Usually the newbies do better on the course than Veterans.

I suppose it is entirely possible you were just victim of tighter standards. They seem to have the upper hand in this market now as we have 120 drivers sitting waiting for a truck now. They used to be fairly liberal with students, giving you every chance to make you a driver as long as you were willing to learn. I hate to see this happen, because Con-way is a great carrier to start your driving career. I'm sorry this did'nt work out for you.

As per another post, Con-way is huge in TX. We have a terminal in the Dallas area, Laredo, and a drop yard in El Paso. Riders are allowed, just gotta be over 12 and there is no charge. Does'nt have to be a relative either.

My husband and I are stopping as a team while I am caring for my parents. He has just turned our truck in with our previous company. He went Solo back in Nov 2008. He has had 3 (-)dollar amount checks with company since Christmas. That was while on a dedicated Walmart account. He goes to orientation on Monday with CWTL, that will be for a week. He was told that he may have to wait a week for a truck. We are near Atlanta. My question is, With 120 drivers waiting on trucks how long will we be with no income? Why continue to hire if you do not have trucks for your new hires? Wow, I am almost wishing I had not come buy this information, as I will be stressing now. Does anyone have any insight, if this is less of a number for solo verses team trucks? At this point though I feel like these questions are too late for us as we are knee deep in it now. It all works out in the end no matter what. :cat:We are going with our intuition that Con-way is a good company. We ran a lot of Con-way loads with our former company and found the terminal to be clean inside and out. We never heard anyone complain. We went to some other well known companies that were dark and not so tidy. It did not matter what state or city, Con-way's terminals where always organized and clean. That speaks loud and clear to me. I just hope we planned this well enough to hold us in the black. Paying Cobra for 3 months is almost enough to put us in the red for a while.
Keeping our chins up and praying for the best.:smt023

The course is still scored the same at Crowder and don't get me wrong, I am blaming no one but myself for the screw up. I knew what was expected and I didn't do it. I still would like to drive for Con-way because I still feel they are one of the best companies out there, but now I have to get 6 months experience before I can reapply. Something will turn up though and all will work out.

And as far as the wait on the trucks, I was told that after completion of the training, it would probably be 3 weeks before I would get my own truck. Good luck to all I wish you all the best.

I have read all 23 pages in this Forum and have found it very helpful. I start CDL Training Monday and I am a little nervous, but I guess I will not be the only one there that will be green. I am 3/4 through the CDL Training book and I am hoping that by reading and testing my knowledge it will have given me somewhat of an edge on things. Although, I am curious about one thing. I stand 5' and is it possible that having short legs you can drive a Big Truck???.....LOL....just wondering. Will I have to prop up on the stearing wheel or what? I will say that now reading about the obstacle course I am really worried now. It would suck coming all the way from Oklahoma and getting sent home. My husband is really counting on me to get on with Conway because he wants to Team with them. No PRESSURE...RIGHT???

My husband has been told it will be 4 to 5 week wait for a truck :angry4:. We will wait it out because we believe Con-way to be a good lasting company. He also found out until 3 weeks ago that they were paying 60 a day waiting on trucks. Oh well 3 weeks late and 3 weeks longer to wait. It looks like I won't be working on the yard by myself hehehe!!!:hello1:Let's hope the money holds out. :flower:

Forgive my inflammatory rhetoric, but this is nonsense!

How many other industries hire people for jobs that don't exist? I can't get my head wrapped around this. I understand we're in awkward times, but this is inexcusable.

My biggest problem is that the previous poster states they stopped compensating waiting drivers. At $60 a day, that's really only 7.50 an hour, but it's at least something. If they're going to hire people they can't put to work, they still need to pay. Try putting off paying your bills for 4 or 5 weeks.

You have a great point. I asked my husband if there were anything else he can do until a truck becomes available. I know they find jobs for people on light duty from workers comp. He asked and was told no. There are 170 on the waiting list and the wait can be up to 5 weeks. He has also been told they will be closing down orientation sites soon and are not putting out new trucks. He said they have many rules and seem to be strick on them. I personally like this as does he. We both have high standard and are hard workers. I have seen too many truckers out there that give truckers a bad name. The job seeker market is high this mean that people who have jobs need to do what it takes or others will be there waiting for their spot. Do we like not getting paid, NO. Do we believe we have chosen a good company? YES, so we will wait it out and be shown in the long run we have made the right sacrifis. Still it does not make it right to hire and not pay some type of compensation for hanging in there with them.

    I smell a good hard %^#%$## coming on...without vasoline.

150 plus waiting on trucks ? This by very definition, is insanity.

Drivers are so scared now, they are willing to wait for a seat, up to 8 weeks???

The companies are back in control. And can cherry pick the best, on their list.

Word of caution..... Students and future applicants !!! This is an example of SCARED drivers. in a weak economy.

It is NOT an example, of a good company. Where drivers are beating the door down, for a job.
