Own Authority guys what kind of fuel card do you use? Or anyone I general.
My carrier saves me around .30-.40 off the cash price at all the larger truckstops.

Is it better to be paid 85% on the carrier's fuel card which may only get you cash price or 88% if you get your own fuel card?

That is why I'm asking and also when I get my own authority to be prepared.

How is Love's fuel card? EFS? Pilot card?
I bet there are so many but for a one truck operation what would I need? Maybe a credit of 6k or so right?

A lot of Independents will give you cash price with a debit card. Credit card was tricky for me as waiting 6 weeks for pay, with regular house and Truck bills every mo.I got in a jam when it was 5.00 a gallon. I quit using them. There’s a couple good cards out there but again if not paid in full can become another credit card.I don’t use any of them too much complication. I’m sure it can be a benefit though.Ooida always pushes one.

Nastc is the favorite around here. I use efs; being from Canada it is my best option at the moment. I also get steep discounts, just not at the large chains. Kwik trip, Sapp, lots of ambests. For the areas I run it works well for me. In Canada I get .10-.15 per litre off through husky/esso. National chain up here, I prefer them over flying j. There are not many independents selling fuel in Canada.

Will the carrier change your pay to 88 instead of 85 if you're buying your own fuel? Do you also have to file your own ifta, or just provide the quarterly report so they can add it in to their ifta filing? Also; who is paying the extra amount due or getting the refund when it comes to ifta? What I mean is......some carriers just take care of it, in this situation it is more beneficial for the owner operator to buy the lowest total priced fuel paying no attention to the tax rate included in the fuel. If YOU are responsible for the amount due/credit back, then you have a bit more calculating to do as far as fuel buying goes. That may make the difference of whether 3 more points is worth it or not. Need to see the whole picture really.

    Edit/add
The card I use works on a draw down system. I load usually $5,000 and I can sign into my account and see all the details. This always keeps me ahead of my fuel bill. I prefer this rather than credit or direct bank withdrawal weekly.

I never heard of different pay for using card.Leasing Laws forbid Companies from getting kickbacks Ooida has sued a bunch already. But if they pay Ifta then yes it’s simple just buy cheapest. I used to do that. You turn in miles they file and pay . Maybe charge you back or not depends onContract. Ed’s should be good in states also for you.

We just use our comdata cards and get a discount through them. Does anyone know if you can use comdata to pay and a separate card for discounts?

Thx for your info. This carrier WILL pay my ifta fuel tax so yippe there. I have always used the major chain truck stops because for me they are the best fuel price but if I change carriers then I'm going to have to plan my fuel stops a little better. I always see the pump price at the major chain truck stops to be more then the independent fuel stops but with their discount it is cheaper to use the major chains then the mom and pop's which unfortunately are less and less.

I did some searching and I found a few i'm looking to do. like dynamite said, that one is likely to be it.
RTS FleetOne seems good according to the lady.
.12 off at pilot and flying j
regional mom and pops as well.
2500 credit per week per truck or something
others moms have other discounts just depends where your at
then you have a app to find your spots ahead of time.
I just need to check out Nastc with Fleet One and see

Also a Free card as well that just offers .14 off at pilot and flying J with 3x rewards points.
