41 is a good road, and there's quite a bit of places to stop along the way.

So many of those US highways across the US have been transitioned into 4 lane roads with medians that sometime the only difference is going through a urban area. Go however you want to go. I once on purpose missed the direct route to Baton Rouge just to go through the big easy on 10.

I always take 57 to 24 when I make my Chicago to Atlanta runs.

The difference in miles is negligible, but the difference in time to travel those miles is significant. The fuel costs are greater. The stops and starts. Speed zones. Etc.

GPS devices do not include stop signs, red lights, farm vehicles, school zones, funeral processions or church traffic when calculating route times.

EDIT my 'Chicago' loads actually start in Joliet or Manteno, normally. On an actual Chicago to Atlanta load, I normally take 65.

Ya was already rolling when I started the thread. No hiccups. Just heavy fog in Kentucky. The bad weather is to the west of me. Its actually in the 60s where I am now. Couple hours away from my drop.

Took the 41 overnight. No bad weather. Its to the west

Ya, I took it and it wasnt that bad, road was empty, barely any cars. Nice clean truck stops all the way too

Well, any time you run well and nothing bad is a good day to remember and cherish.

My last look at your radar in St Louis Kankankee has some big time fronts with rain and later on will be snow. You probably will be around 60 this PM and down below freezing tonight maybe.

Ive been watching Rolla MO. They are right on the edge of that mess.

I must admit that being an old ####er, most of my routing habits date from the days of Illinois being a 55 mph state with 24/7 scales. With the speed limit now higher, I should look at it again.

But the bootleg ways run deep...

Ya, they are getting hit pretty good. It started raining here now. I am going to start going at 2 am. Checked the weather and no warning of icy along my route but things can change.

And, on the opposite side of the same argument, if you make a run from El Paso to Denver, US 54 to I 40 to US 84 to I 25 is a good route since a lot of that route is now 65 miles per hour. Especially if you might hit Albuquerque during traffic hours.
