Man life is really cruel sometimes...
I try to carry myself as a god fearing man with integrity.
Long story short. I got my cdl A about a year and half ago. I drive for trans am straight out of trucking school. Like an idiot, after vowing I wouldn't, I went the lease route. They fooled me into thinking I would make more money. Needless to say I barely was given enough miles to cover my truck payments and other expenses. I literally drove for free my whole last month there. Basically I was just trying to gain experience at that point. I ended up quitting.i wasn't able to support my family. This experience made me feel that trucking wasn't for me.. So I stopped driving and got a regular job.
Fast forward to today. I went in for a trucking job and was sent for a DOT physical and drug test. No problem.
At least so I thought. Upon filling out the paperwork. There was a question asking if I had used a control substance in the past two years. Being honest I answered yes and wrote out my explanation that I had smoked a little marijuana a few months ago. The doctor goes through with my whole exam and then tell me. Well I appreciate your honesty, however because you answered yes to the question asking if you used a control substance in the past two years then I'm unable to give you a dot card and stated that I needed to go to my primary care doctor and get them to provide her with a form stating that, basically I don't have a drug problem. So now I can't start my new job Monday.iknow I should pass the drug test. But it's like I'm being treated as if I failed a drug test. I have to find a substance abuse professional and get them to give me some form to take back to her and then she will give me my card..
It just doesnt seem right and I feel like I should have just lied. I'm not drug addict nor a pot head. I just smoked a little bit while at a party. I wasn't even employed at the time. Does this mean it will go on my record and I will have to get a return to service order or what ever. And what happens when my drug test called back negative. That should account for something. But with my luck I'm sure it won't...

PS. Also the lab tech reopened my urine sample while I was in the room being examined.. They threw away the rest of my urine without testing it for diabetes and whatever else.. They originally asked me can I provide another sample because they forgot to test it for diabetes or what not and stated they just need a drop. But then one other tech intervened and said don't worry about it.. Then while in the exam room. The tech came in and said to the other tech. It's OK we just reopened the sample already provided. And then wrote finding on the paper and took another paper and walked out.. Can they do this. Shouldn't my sample be considered tainted. Who would I report this too.
Sorry for all the questions.and such a long post. But I really need some advice on this.

Honestly is no longer the best policy. I tell them only what they want to hear. The DOT urine sample isn’t for illegal substance testing. They’re looking for sugar and protein.

To be blunt; you should have lied about smoking pot.
Now it's going to be a hassle getting back behind the wheel.
I'd go to another company real fast and try again; like tomorrow!
Find one that does urine test; not hair follicle test.
    Are you in Alabama?
Rusty Dog Express might hire you.
Actually, you're in pretty good shape because you didn't fail a drug test.
"Have you ever failed or refused a drug test?" The answer is truthfully, "NO."

YOU by your own mouth branded yourself in the DOT world, Doctors as a drug user. Pot. Which is illegal for big trucks and illegal federally. Definately a controlled Susbtance which possession of without prescription or card from doctor is also illegal.

It stays in your hair up to a year. Weeks in your body fat and urine a while. You are literally dirty. So there is no point in testing you because you WILL come up dirty, hot, positive etc vs the MRO.

They can test whatever is in front of them or out of your body in a cup, blood or whatever. Hair too. If they did have a positive finding then their hands are tied. You are branded. And generally for those "Caught" with hot results have to undergo at your own expense a year long SAP designed to weed out addicts from the trucking industry permanently.

To get a doctor to certify that you do not (By your own admission) use drugs or have a addiction, dependance etc is to literally ask that doctor to take on the DEA at the Federal Level and vouch for you to be virtious and not a dependant, abuser, diverter, sales, felon, illegal drug user etc. etc etc etc. Most doctors are smart enough not to do this.

It will cost you a block of time in your life. You must choose to give up pot if you want trucking. You cannot and will not have both.

I applaud you being honest. That's good. At the same time that's bad. Especially when you are in fact doing something you know you should not. Or cannot legally.

Yeah that was a foolish mistake bro. There is the same question about “do you drink alcohol and if so how much”
Some people like to have a beer or 2 to unwind at the end of the night. But even still, you always check “no”
There is no reward for honesty on those physicals.
Yeah, some things could be a problem, like a medical condition. But if you smoked a little weed a couple months or a couple years ago. Or even had a sip of alcohol, don’t put that on dot physical. What were you thinking fella

this is all you had to say, not your life's story...

regarding #2...forget about it, you did not even get the DOT card

    regarding #1....

you volunteered information that should not have been volunteered.

as said by a few others, honesty is not the best policy in trucking.

you should keep your darned mouth SHUTTY,,,,,,!!!!!!

let them find the weed usage in a the pre-employment drug screening.

    move onto another job application/search.......

Integrity is shunned upon these days. It has effected my life tremendously this past year. Have to really be smart these days, and say the right thing, even if it is a lie. What happened to Honesty is always the best policy? How is one suppose to have Integrity, and get through life without being punished for it? What a messed up World we live in, feel really sorry for the generations down the road....

it's those future generations you feel sorry for, that are now the root cause of this BS world we live in, giving us the much misaligned "political correctness crowd"....

it is the influx of many from other countries, that have no ethics or morals, corrupting our world.

so feel sorry for us in the here and now, not the future.
