Hey Scooterdawg,
That sure is one pretty truck, nice and blue, glad to hear that everything is going well for you and that your making the runs with no problem. What have your miles been like? I have not been able to get in contact with Leith in over 2 weeks, I have sent him messages and E-mails and still have not heard a word from him. So I have had some luck on the Plan A, up here in Michigan on the Mail run that I told you about, called the owner of the company 2 weeks ago and he said that he had to talk with his partner to see if he was planning on putting a couple of more trucks on the road to move mail, so he told me to call him back this week on Tuesday and he would let me know.
So I called him on Tuesday and he faxed me an application and told me to fill it out and get it back to him and that his partner was going to put a couple of more trucks on the road and that he needed my phone number and name and gave me a different fax number to his office, I feel that I will be moving mail for this company soon, and they pay by the hour very well. Most of his company runs day cabs and is mostly local, but sometime it might involve driving out of state for a couple of day, they just got authorization to start pulling double 48 footer but not in Michigan. This is for 6 days a week using the postal wage scale for pay most of the guys that drive for him leave in the evening and are back home in the morning can't complain about that deal. Well just wanted to say hey and wish you the best buddy and I will let you know how this works out for me. Just keeping my finger crossed and praying .

But that sounds like a pretty good gig you got going on there. Are you going to be subject to all the same benefits that the post office gets?
I am tickled for you man! -
Hey Scooterdawg,
Yeah, I feel that this is a great gig and I will be able to be home alot more for the Wife and the little. Not to mention that I don't have to put everything on the wife being OTR. The company uses the wage pay system by the hour usually 18 to 21 dollars an hour. As for the other benefits I don't know about will have to get with the owner of the fleet and get information on everything else.
He seems have pretty nice trucks, and having prior experience in heavy haul and just getting my CDL back after many years of letting them go while in the Military, like he said driver a 10 speed don't change and most of these trucking company want you to go thru refresher course after a couple of month just so they can make more money off of you, when it's like riding a bike, it don't change this is just another scam to rip the drivers off.
So I am looking forward to getting that phone call in a couple of days if everything goes well. So how have your miles been? How is the better half dealing with everything? I bet the Dawg is going crazy not being able to go on the road with you, atleast you will have some company when he can. My wife said that she could go with me and I told her that I would never make any miles with her along, due to fact that making bathroom breaks every hour or so don't make many miles.
If thing don't work out with my plan then I will consider calling leith, it's like I told my buddy this economy is a recruiters dream if your military. promises of a job and get paid very little to do it.
Well take care of yourself and family glad to hear that everything has been working out for you.
Best wishes,
Jack

Ok, so another week has passed and things have been pretty good. No complaints. Winston-Salem NC to Milwaukee, to Knoxville to Hickory nc. Now sitting in Burlington NC waiting to pick up a load in Sanford tomorrow going to Ft Madison, Iowa.
Things are as good if not better than I thought they would be. Getting real good at handling the mountains. By no means a pro, but getting more comfortable with the extreme slopes and curves.
I did get to experience being detained at a dock for TOO LONG! Apparently the lumper that was handling my load was in NO HURRY to do ANYTHING. I bumped the dock at 445 am and didn't get released until 10am. All because he moved at the speed of snail. But I am getting paid for it. Nice part about it was there was another driver that had just cleared up, so he was able to get my load picked up on time and I am taking the same load to Iowa tomorrow. My dispatcher was really on top of his game with this one.
But all is GREAT! This is the most fun you can have with your clothes on!
Be safe!
Arf! -
Yup, Yup, Yup!
Linda is doing well with the whole thing. In fact, I was able to shut down today around 50 miles from the house so her and my best friend rode up here to have dinner with me. It was really nice. Gotta love a good dispatcher, huh?
Scooter is pouting from what I understand and has since I left last Wednesday. I gave Linda a little "Scooby Doo" stuffed animal tonight and she took it home. Scooter sniffed it, kissed it, and claimed it as hers. Rather pathetic, huh? hehehehehe
Well good luck with your setup man. It sounds like a good thing. Stay in touch.... I'll find ya! -
Give me a trained driver who afraid and cautious to the guy who knows it all and can run 70 miles an hour in the ice and snow.
ScooterDawg Thanks this.
