It wasn't to me. You just brought up another aspect/angle that I missed. :) I was like: Ohh, ok, that makes sense.

Not sure exactly what "thank" means. I would assume it is either a "like" or exactly what the name implies, thanking someone for posting the content there in. Until I get a definitive answer I will assume, but we all know what assumptions can do, that it is a combination of the two.

I hate the whole "like/thank" system. It means different things to different people. It adds a certian amount of apprehension and uncertianty. I just use it when I agree with someone, moreso when I have a comment, just to clarify my intent.

I think it came into play with the early social media sites. The more thanks/likes/eprops someone's blog recieved the more likely it would show up on the main page and would then attract more people to thier site.

It's effect on sites like YouTube are striking. People will post a video and the first thing they do is ask for likes and subscriptions before they even present thier content. How do we know thier content is even worth that before we view it?

    I don't think it's nessasary on a forum.

Yup. Nice to see but but we're not getting giddy tallying up likes and thanks. 10-roger?

For sure you're right. Me and a buddy of mine, anytime we get to talkin about what we're going to do and what we're not going to do in any given situation yes, he has a quote and I love it. He always says "depends on the situation". And he's right. As are you sir. We can talk all day long about what we going to do and what we ain't going to do. But if we're totally honest with ourselves any action we may take or statements we may make it ... "depends on the situation"

    Relativism.

    That’s a slippery slope.
