What's really ridiculous is if you run team and go into Canada . You have to come out of the sleeper and go on duty . Any DOT that sees you crossed the border knows this . Doesn't matter if you just flag it . Your sleeper time has been interrupted .

Actually, that's one area where, in practise, the regulators have been reasonable. At least, in my experience. When I was running team we were allowed to flag it, but not have to re-start our rest (similar to the allowance for phone calls during your rest period) so long as it took less than 15 minutes. The DOT auditors were accepting this approach. The only time we were told to interrupt our rest was if the resting driver had to exit the truck ... which never happened. I swear.:biggrin_255:

The chances of being caught on line 2 in the front seat are slim if you ask me. If you have your front curtain closed, the whole truck cab is now a sleeper if you ask me.

I understand and don't mind staying under 11 hours driving and 14 hours working. But I won't be put in a time out on my time off, it's that simple. That's not the country I know.

I am a private person, so I go into the sleeper and close the curtain even when I am on the laptop, reading a book, or watching a movie.

I have heard of DOT knocking on doors while drivers were in the sleeper....The driver gets up go to check out who it is in the driver's seat.....
DOT then nails the driver for a bunk violation.....so I have heard....could be a Truck Stop legend or it could be truth....
I always answer on the passenger side btw....

I got a fix-it ticket because my trailer and tractor valves on my KW had the lettering worn off......:biggrin_2552: I'm the only one who drove it!!!!

The Bear didn't like my answer that the trailer valve is the "red octagon shaped" knob and the tractor valve is the "yellow diamond shaped"....he asked me what would I do if I were in an emergency situation...."You have to make sure you pull the right valve" So I replied that if you have to stop and read to find out which is the right valve, you have no business in the truck......Mr. Bear didn't like that answer and then wrote me up for having my stack tips pointed out perpendicular to the cab as well.....:biggrin_25526:

If you are in the truck, relaxing at the truckstop, you are sleeper berth...

Do you silly drivers log 15min off duty in the middle of a 10hr sleeper if you get up and go to the bathroom?

You are not on duty always in the driver seat, what if you are sitting at the truckstop on a 34hr reset??? Same thing is true on your 10hr sleeper.....so what, if you are on your 34hr reset and spend 30minutes talking and messaging your company, trying to get a load, you have now broken your 34hr and thus have achieved no restart????

I wish I had all these extra hours to burn in my log book.
