Wow what an odd day and turn of events. Sometimes the universe equalizes things pretty quickly though.
This morning I was broken down on the side of the road wondering what the heck the day was going to cost me, any part of which could have been very expensive. First, I got the tow for free (cha-ching), then the clutch only needed adjusting (cha-ching), figured I'd pull the lever one more time and have them look at the A/C which I was planning on doing without for a while... only needed a pound and a half of freon and blowing icicles (ChaChing). Now also, during the tow to the shop, the rear cab side windgards were flapping like crazy and one just snapped off cracked at the bolts. Had to pull over and remove it along with all the weather stripping.
So my shop fixed the clutch, the A/C, and reassembled the truck with a workaround for the cracks for at grand total of $134.00

So now the weird part. They fired it up, backed it out of the garage and tossed me the keys. I got in and put my stuff in, turned the key and nothing happened. Checked everything and tried several more times, nothing, batteries doing fine.
This was closing time, they came out and beat on it a bit, checked the relays, checked for power all down the line, checked out good. Jumped it at the solenoid and it fired up. Turned it off and back on, was fine. Apparently the starter developed a dead-spot (?). So I figured I'd see if it would start at least 5 more times, it did about 3 more and that was it.
So I tossed them back the keys and they'll put in a new starter tomorrow morning. ($350-$400 all said and done)
Strange turn of events, but overall I couldn't be more pleased, I ended up way ahead of the game for everything that could have happened. Hopefully these are all things I won't have to worry about again for quite a while.Baack Thanks this. -
Glad it worked out for you.

Sounds like the dealer is trying to help you out at least. Can't complain about a free tow. Although maybe he's just trying to avoid you asking him to pay for half of the repairs or bringing the truck back. I believe you have 3 days on a major purchase like this to return it. There may also be some options for you under the Lemon law. Don't know for sure, just a thought. -
Man I found your post last night. Was up til five in the morning reading it.
When ever I tried to go to sleep, I was driving myself crazy wondering what happened next. Anyway, got to work at 7am, rush to my desk (cubicle hell) to finish reading. So here I am. All done. You and Broncrider are my heroes. -
I have 40Grand in saving and plan on doing something real similiar. Also buying a pete 389 (more bang for the buck). I've managed to find a few with under 500000 miles around that price. However, to my favor with todays economy, I also have buying power. I'm thinking about on average 10grand off the sticker (i can dream can't I). No truck payments. I plan to pull flatbed for TMC for about 6mth to a year to get my feet wet, as a company driver, then purchase the truck and lease back on with them as an owner operator. My kids are grown, and my daughter is graduating college this May, and moving to NC for a job. Empty apartment. So everthing is going into storage. (No rent for a while) I haven't went to CDL school yet, but I got my permit, and all the endorcement except doubles and triples and school bus. I dont see me doing any of those. I won't need haz-mat for flat bed but I got it anyway. In the meantime, I've been driving with a friend of mine some weekends just to get a feel for it. I work for a pipeline company, so i'm very familar with flat beds trucking, and heavy equiptment moving. We have several trucks here that I get to play with(lucky me). To keep this short and not steel your thread, I feel that I'm well ahead of the game. I have a corporate job, pipeline inspector. It was fun while it lasted, but with the merger a few years ago, the company is going down hill fast. I now hate what I use to love. Trucking is something that I always wanted to do, and know I have the chance to do it. I going on faith. My preacher alway say, "If the Lord brought you to it, He will take you through it" . Looking forward to reading more of your post, and thanks for giving a brother some hope.

Stay tuned for how it all works out, all we've learned so far is how to spend a buttload of money!BabiBoi357 Thanks this. -
Thanks, buy the way I just price a new Utility flat bed trailer, spead axle, air ride, coil kit, sliding rear axle. $22,500 a lil less with cash offer. -
I got about 40% off the price of my truck. Don't be afraid to lowball. Don't appear invested in a particular truck/trailer, matter of factly state your offer is X and to call you if they want to sell. (Hopefully this way it will spare you the meeting halfway conversation)
In my case the financing did all the negotiating and the dealer knew without a doubt that was all they were going to get. It was their choice to do it or not at that point.Baack Thanks this. -
You will need the hazmat if you're going to work for TMC. My friend works for them now and he had to get it to haul transformers. They're filled with oil.
