Hello all,
I’ve been on the road most of my life as a musician or a driver of some sort from cars to vans with trailers to straight trucks. Always wanted my CDL but never had the time or need to get it. Now that I’m being laid off as of Jan. 1st and will have a small severance package. I thought it would be a good time to make use of the time and get it done.
I think I’ve narrowed it down to 3 canidates.
USF Holland, Roehl and RE West.
I’m looking at RE West as they have no contract or non compete, if you leave before the timeline they ask that you pay back the $85 for their DOT Physical.
Anyone have any good insight on these companies? The good the bad the ugly etc. Benefits, starting pay once solo etc.
Thanks for any input.
Best company to get CDL. RE West, Holland, Roehl

Millis Transfer has cdl school and I think they start at .43 cpm plus accessorial pays.
You do need $500 to get started there.
slim shady and drumchaos Thank this. -
RE West has a good deal with no contract.
Do 6 months there then switch to A&R Logistics. They don't require any endorsements, no tanker & no hazmat.
One of my former neighbors in Robertson County worked there at A&R and really liked the company. I think he pulled a lot of loads out of the rail yard in Nashville.

Well, first off, Merry Christmas everyone and thanks for all the help.
I have an interview tomorrow with R.E. West. I’ll update with any particulars for anyone interested.Chinatown Thanks this. -
Update.
Interview went well, offered a job pending the BG check. I know there are no issues with that. Nice folks, nice trucks, most are Penske leases (2016 and newer Cascadias) with a Penske shop on site.
$600 sign on bonus to cover first 2 weeks then $300/week for weeks 1&2 then $500/week while OTR with a trainer. Then 36 cpm with 4 reviews with possible .01 raise each within the first year.
I have an interview tomorrow with USF Holland for their dock to driver program. I also talked with Averitt and am considering a school with and possibly going to Averitts training after getting the cdl..
Any thoughts? -
Chinatown won’t endorse Averitt! But you got to decide what works for you! I’m sure you could find higher starting salary but with a severance package might be fine for you! Might want to consider a Company that has more options like Van, Refer, Flatbed or Tanks! Just my 2 cents! Good Luck!

Thanks for the input. Just curious but what’s the word on Averitt? Why wouldn’t he endorse them?
-
I believed he worked for them in the past and wasn’t pleased. He would give you specifics about them if you can PM him yet? I have no experience with them but they are just another Company always looking for Drivers! He can give you a lot of options in your area I’m sure!
