I am considering the purchase of a 1968 Mack Model R daycab with a 15 speed Triplex transmission. I would like to get the thoughts of others if this would make a good "farm" road tractor. I have driven the truck around and have figured out the transmission but its one of those things that will take some time. I will use the truck for moving equipment and hay around a probably 50 mile range pulling a lowboy trailer. The truck only has approximately 300k miles and has always been kept inside so no rust or anything. Again I would like to get some thoughts and also what would be a good price?

    Thanks

Got a 673 Mack motor? I learned to drive on a 68 r model dump. 673 with a duplex. Fun to drive when you’re 17. Slow as molasses though

Batteries, Rubber (Anything rubber), a can of ether for when it's off it's feed and wont start well. (There should be a selenoid on the right of the block where you can get a ball pen under and trip the #### thing to crank.)

Do not try to shift making a turn. I don't know if you got walking beams or not. IF you don't don't shift until finished with turn.

KEEP your #### thumbs out from inside that steering wheel. It will whip and try to break bones if you cross curb, field furrows etc.

You should have a working Mr Pyro. Goes to 1200 on upgrade. with a 1450 max. There is also should be a restrictor on your dash, it can only pull a certain value or less when airfilter is clean. Anything more means she has asthma.

That truck should out live you if you baby it. No reason for it not to.

So help me I like those little macks. Ive managed to get some trucking done with them.

Sounds like the ultimate barn find to me. If you don't buy it, I'd be happy to lol.

If you buy it, we need pictures!

Make a good horse for sure, just don't get in a hurry lol. Those older Macks are tougher than a pine knot, unlike the Mack mutations of today.

The one I learned in was a B-77 and had a Detroit engine when I was a teenager. 5 sp main with a 4 sp. brown light. Please post some pictures, we'd enjoy seeing it.

the truck is unique. without seeing it they I have seen runners go for as little as $5k and as high as $10. Limited market for such equipment but dont let that stop you from buying it and making it earn its keep.
