Why is California's speed limit set at 55?

    That is ridiculous. I want to go faster than that.

    Is this just California's way of going after the trucking industry and turn people away from trucking? This on top of so many regulations, so many rules including when it comes to idling laws. etc.

    CA is the worst state to be a truck driver!

    Save fuel is the idea.
    They should have a downhill truck speed limit of 80...for the long slow grades anyway. Why not take full advantage of the return of energy?

    Really? Why?
    We've got lots of room east of 35 too.
    California makes us a tad nervous because of their CARB and Weigh stations like Banning...
    I can't go there but a measly 1000 miles per year exemption,

    I from phx so i guess cali is just normal to me... For me the the east coast is like a foreign country , i dont understand the ppl or the roads out there

    Back during last century we had a national speed limit of 55 for everyone, no split speed limits. They forgot to tell California it is okay to go a bit faster.

    Well,the People are like anywhere- You got your Lefties thinking Santa Claus should be Transgender- And you Got your Blue Collar Hard Working no nonsense Tax Payin' Gun Totin' Ameicans........

    As For Roads, not that Bad , Until you get east of Ohio, Then a certain amount of skill must be in place-
