I've got a few misdemeanor drug charges. That makes every company I've driven for a terrible company. One thing about trucking, just about every driver has done something that could get them arrested. Some get caught, some don't. Don't be self righteous.

I started at May in 2009. Put in my time and moved on.

I knew a driver there who had a felony bank (not armed robbery) related record.

He told me how grateful he was that May gave him a chance. He did well there for 6 years.

Got his life back, paid his dues and moved on.

I have another friend who had a rap sheet a mile long. A regional company I worked for in Oregon gave him a chance too. He was the most loyal hardworking employee you could ever want.

He's since moved on to a really well paying gas hauling job. Cleared his background check and all.

Sometimes people who've made poor decisions in life, if given the chance, can turn things around.

I personally think the op is a punk for painting a picture of May Trucking and it's employees as "thugs".

We have two guys at our company with felony records. Both crimes were serious enough to warrant state prison time. Both crimes were committed when they were very young.
Knowing both of them and their families gave us some insight about what we should do to help them.
Both guys have completely turned their lives around and have been working here over twenty years now with no problems.
Are we a crappy company because we hired them? I don't think so. Are they thugs because they got stupid, made a bad mistake, got caught, and paid their dues? Of course not. Like our owner at the time said.."Hell, that could have been me when I was young. Matter of fact it probably was me 'cept I didn't caught".
That being said, we've also hired a couple of ex felons who didn't work out at all. One was a mechanic's helper who was selling tires out the back door of our shop. The other one seemed to think that the answer to any disagreement was to bust the other party in the mouth. That tends to irritate customers and co-workers.
Are we cold and uncaring because we fired them? Nope. We run a trucking company, not a social rehab project.

OP...May trucking has do deal with the results from the people they hire. Do your job and let them do theirs

Heck the lead dispatcher where I work did time at the Nebraska State Penn for some gang and drug stuff ...they hired him straight out of prison to work the wash bay 11 years ago and he's head of dispatch now ...very good at his job too.
One of my best friends did time in Iowa for a gun offence 35 years ago and is an expert in the LTL biz now .
A lot of us myself included did dumb stuff when we were young .
Some learn from it and some don't .

The is big difference between some drunk idiot who flew out of his lane, or killed his wife cause he saw her cheating , and a person who in his clear mind shot someone over money or heroin

There’s not a trucking company out there that doesn’t have drivers with a past record. It’s just the nature of the business. Same goes with construction and a lot of other jobs.

What *I* found unbelievable about May was their facilities. They are what I envision a homeless shelter would look like.

Overall, I enjoyed my 1.5 year stay at May, but I avoided their terminals like the plague. I would come in, do whatever I came there to do and leave, if only to get to the closest truck stop.

Criminals need a second chance! Take me, for example. I was looking at 29 to life after my 3rd strike. My offense? I let my truck idle for over 3 mins in New Jersey.
