It is so worth it. Green oak will shrink and warp. Oak will rot in just a couple years where as apitong will last for 8 or better. Plus to get comparable strength oak will have to be thicker. In my opinion it’s well worth the extra.

Hard wood blocking is almost impossible to get out here in AZ. I am always looking for 6x 9 7 x 10 or 10x 12 hard wood around 44” long

I am looking for some that won’t split or crack in the dry air out here.

I have been searching for a supplier of composite blocks as well but the mfg’s Want you to buy in giant quantities and I only need 10-15 blocks

I have been using cutdown RR ties to drive equipment on and they work but split after a while

    SAR and cke Thank this.

If you can find it, there is some kind of special wood that some of the house movers use for cribbing. I don't recall what it is but it's super light, stronger than oak, and won't crack. I have seen it before but have no idea what it's called.

You can also drive S irons into the ends of timbers that will help with cracking. Almost all larger oak blocks will split with time.
