About 2500 - 300 fuel monthly. Between 300-500 miles a day. Driver would be home every night. Would be away from home 12-14 hours a day. Northeast area.
What’s a reasonable rate to pay a CDL driver?

With you supplying everything but the truck. I would. It think that he would get more than 75%. In most owner op situations that I am aware of. The guys that own the truck, trailer and all of the expenses only get 85%. I wouldn’t think he should get even the 75%.

Power only, you owning the trailer should pay him 70% or so, assuming he is responsible for fuel and repairs on the truck.
If you are going to employ him and take all responsibility for the truck, fuel and maintenance while he retains ownership then it should pay wages of at least $1,500 on the W2 and a reasonable fee for use of the tractor. This is a very complicated situation.
Why not just buy his truck uf he wants to be an employee driver? By the way, I have a truck and 7 car trailer for sale, ready to go. 2014 Miller 7 car, self contained, short neck. One owner/driver since new. Also have a 2000 Mack tractor available, no ELD required (1999 engine). $50,000 for the combo or $40,000 for just the trailer, located in northeastern Pennsylvania. Delivery available. -
