Oh, dear Lord. A $900+ used radio from some nitwit claiming a one of a kind "supertune"? I realize that Walcott Radio has a somewhat checkered reputation, one guy on here who seems to really know his stuff, was invited to leave by the local authorities after a reputedly heated exchange, really dislikes them and they can and do border on arrogant at times...but the install of my Stryker 655hp, which they put on the bench just to check the alignment for no charge, top shelf coax and connectors, Astatic Mike and a tuned Predator antenna cost me about $600. Now I can't talk to the Moon but I can easily reach out 10 miles or more and I'm routinely complemented on how my rig sounds. It operates much easier than anything you'll get out of a truckstop, I rarely mess with anything but the squelch. If you want a SSB model, spend about $40 more for the 955hp model.

Yes ssb is single sideband but don't worry about that yet.

By the way, that $900 is just a cb, you could get a cobra 29 from 1976 for $30 and put a good amp behind it and have better performance.

Ok. So the bearcat 880 at $99 is a good first CB for me?

    980 is AM/SSB.

    880 is AM only.

While you might not take to using SSB right away, the price difference makes the 980 the better bargain.

Some say it also has slightly better receive characteristics over the 880.

Check all the usual sources. Amazon, eBay, etc.

If I paid $900 for a CB it would have to perform way more services than just TX/RX. If you know what I mean

You’re swinging the meter both ways, huh?

    Transmission & reception?

    AC or DC, bubba?
