No, there aren't any requirements for them to be an exclusive broker. I just happen to be an approved asset based carrier for them, like I am for at least 50 other brokerages and shippers.

Seems to me these big brokerages have figured out a way to leverage their size by including supplementary additions.

TA has no interest in offering a 1 man dog and pony show any significant discounts. However, bundle thousands of us together and there you go.

Even if these brokerages/associations can realize a few pennies per gallon, multiply that by thousands of gallons each week and that turns into some serious dough.

I have been with them for several years but another o/o that runs with us signed up this past year. He didn’t have to do any of that.
Thinking about it, the difference may be that I am leased to my brothers company, and so are the 3 other o/o that have joined. I think they said if you have your own authority (and less than 5 trucks) they require it.
But it may have changed from that also. I know this last o/o has only been on it a few months and nothing but the fees were required.
With the amount of money I save on 3 trucks it would still be worth it. On 11249 gallons I saved $2233 off cash price for the month of Dec.

If your leased on to someone you don’t have to attend class.

If you own the authority you have to attend the class.

Guy I’m leased to has 5 trucks and doesn’t want to go to the class. I save average of $380 a month. But his guys run %30 more miles than I do, and 5 trucks. I guess being inconvenienced for a couple days isn't worth the savings to him?

He’s a wealthy man but sometimes I just shake my head and walk away.

Yeah, I received an email from a sales rep at NASTC.

"NASTC, The National Association of Small Trucking Companies, represents 9000+ trucking companies nationwide which equates to 80,000+ trucks. NASTC was founded about 29 years ago with the idea that collectively as a group NASTC members are bigger than any one large trucking company put together, Because of this we are able to negotiate discounts on fuel and maintenance, safety programs, a Drug and Alcohol program, e-log solutions, discounts with JJ Keller, etc. (the list goes on and on) for our members, that small companies on their own may not be able to negotiate. Within our program you will receive “big company benefits” , that allows you to grow and prosper as a small entity without breaking the bank. I have attached a brief overview for you on NASTC membership benefits. We are a full small trucking company association. We have a wide variety of programs we offer our members. Our primary goal is to level the competitive playing field by helping you save money on the cost side of your business."

    UltraONE Rewards Program Updates

The UltraONE membership will now give drivers TWO ways to earn rewards. Not only can UltraONE points be redeemed throughout our locations, now shower credits will become a more flexible reward known as UltraCredits. Drivers will still get a reward for every 60 gallons fueled at TA, Petro and TA Express, but the UltraCredit reward is bigger and better. UltraCredits allow drivers to decide how they want to be rewarded. The more they fuel with us, the more options they’ll have on how to use UltraCredits.

After some thinking, I got Fleet One Edge. As long as I stay within smaller chains Sapp Bros. Speedways, Kwik Trip, some AmBest truck stops too... it is on par with NASTC e.g. today I could get fuel for 2.25 - 2.30 in Chicago area. I'd say that not going to that NASTC seminar was a decider. It is financed by Wex bank which might be the same the Nastc uses; 8 dol per month, no swipe fee as long as it is in the network + $75 set up fee. No much discounts at big truck stops TA/Petros/PFJ only 10c.

This reward crap is getting old. Fuel rewards, credit card rewards, shower reward. It's all a scam to drive up prices. Every place that has the best reward also fly the highest price for a gallon of fuel on the sign.
