California charges $0.70/gallon fuel tax at the pump, so at $3.10/gallon, the true cost of fuel in CA is $2.40 before tax.
Oregon charges $$0.00/gallon fuel tax at the pump, so at $2.30/gallon, the true cost of fuel in OR is $2.30 before tax.

Not as much of a difference in price as it would seem.

I only say that for those who prefer to pay at the pump. Some prefer to pay at each quarter.

Noy much difference in what you price, but you still have to pay tax on what you burn.

    KB3MMX Thanks this.

Yes, but you get credit for the tax you pay at the pump. If you don't pay it at the pump, you'll have to pay it when you file at the end of the quarter.

My point is that you can't go by the pump price to determine the best state to purchase fuel.

Thanks, this insight makes the best sense. I gave them 56 receipts so they can figure it out. As to why they wanted to keep it a secret that I need to report milage weekly, well that was probably because that allowed them to justify 4k in extra charges ;) On a serious note, there's no way Penske wrote a check for 4k.

    2500 mi / wk @6mpg is 416 gallons.

    416x 70¢(some States) = $291/week

    6 months = $7,000 potentially

I've used Penske and I do know they do require you to submit trip sheets.

Not doing this with copies of fuel receipts is why there is a problem. Without the data they must use the telemetry in the truck to determine mileage in States and ECM fuel used to get a ifta estimate.

Renter be warned, you are still required to be a legal ifta user. Do the paperwork.

Too bad we don't have true free market Capitolism because most of us would buy cheaper fuel in other states and force the tax crazed states to rethink their policies.

The govt will get your blood whether you like it or not though lol
