Got a quote for workers comp for 1 employee @ 50k in NY and it came out to 8800 for the year!? Wtf??
Does anyone know what state should be used for workers comp? Is it the state your company is registered in? The state your office is in? Also because we travel through states does that effect anything?
Any info would be appreciated.
Is workers comp really this expensive??

If I recall correctly it’s around 8% for an OTR driver in my state. In the first few years your forced to use the state mandated companies and then you can shop it out. Shopped out around 6%.
That seems awful high but nothing would surprise me in NY. -

You can look at Occupational Accident insurance IF you state will accept it. Occupational Accident Insurance vs Workers Comp – OCC ACC Insurance

You should get a quote from the NYS insurance fund which is compensation insurance run by the state.brian991219 Thanks this. -
NY charges between 16 and 26%
Also make sure you get it in writing that it will cover your drivers. I know for a fact it does not cover out of NY employees properly.brian991219 and KANSAS TRANSIT Thank this. -
