Curious if anyone on here has gotten a lane violation in The Gorge on the NC side? The 25mph knuckleheads exhausted my patience and opened the door for a hefty donation to NC Highway Patrol.. I’ve talked to a few local lawyers specializing in traffic violations and they’re all saying the DA will not reduce lane violations under nearly any circumstance. I don’t have a problem paying the fine but I don’t need the points.

Here's my legal advice. Stay out of very well marked restricted lans. It's not rocket surgery you know.

You have a choice, you can run the prescribed lane in the Gorge and get clear and roll. OR you can pick some other route that does not involve the Gorge at all. And then Roll.

There is nothing to stress over provided you are in the correct lane and speed within the Gorge. if I remember right it's about 40 miles and done. I don't let myself get wound up like a old woman over that. What I do do however is listen to the mountain round about. As long shes quiet and peaceful like things are well.

IF you are referring to myself, that was in 1998 southbound past the first scalehouse on the first upgrade on I-5 grapevine. It was absolutely legal for me to be at 72 against my governor in that lane passing Mr Swift at 30. A stack of trucks were waiting behind me to sort themselves out by horsepower as we go up.

I run thru the gorge multiple times a week, sometimes multiple times a day. That 28ish mile stretch becomes a real bottleneck on your day when you cross it hardly maintaining 30mph and at times below 20mph because the mega carrier driver leading doesn’t know how to drive his truck. But regardless, I played the game and won the prize this time. Just looking for feedback from others who received the same and how they proceeded. Otherwise I’ll pay it and move on.. rest of the surrounding counties couldn’t care less about the violation, as long as they get the money

How in the world did you get caught? What stretch exactly? Everyone knows there’s only like 2 places to pass!! Was the trooper parked? Rolling behind you or in opposite direction?

I really don't like driving too fast through there just because stuff in trailer gets tossed around but have never had to worry about it because always get behind some one doing 25 ........

that stretch has always been dangerous. the road is either not banked at all or has too little and some corners are actually have negative banking.

been driving thru there for over 30 yrs. the wrecks use to be weekly thing. mostly roll overs and they were bad. some guys killed.

the local or light weight LTL drivers are all trying for speed record and the heavy trucks that aren't familiar with the road try to keep up.

taking 26 around is about 50 miles extra. ran that a lot during one of the landslide closures.
