i don't know what kind of gps you have i have a garmin and they make a exterior antenna for them. yours might not be getting the satilite signal very well in the cab even if it is in the window. mines a nuvi 660 and it has the flip up antenna on it keep that flip up sqaure as flat as possible to recieve the signal the best a lot of guys flip the antenna all the way to where oit stands straight up and it doesn't work as well. as was stated before do NOT rely on that gps for directions they are designed for cars and thier directions are for where a car can go. Best advice you can get is get a truckers atlas the one with the wiegh stations shown for all states its high but its worth it and when you get your paperwork for your delivery make sure to get a phone number for the reciever that way when you get your route planned outand know what highway that you are coming into the town on you can then call them and get their local directions to their place. most know how the trucks get to them and will give you good directions plus will tell you to watch for certain landmarks to turn at for example like turn right when you get to hwy 19 there is a car dealer on the left right berfore the turn.

What I do know though is that if you want to work towards a dedicated lane that your habits just need to be reliable, and no turning down loads. The 2nd O/O I called for a reference (outside my dealer's trucking co) only pulls 3 states, NC, VA, GA. He's home every week and through home when he wants during the week. He said he does roughly 3k to the truck weekly. I'm assuming that since he and likely others have a similar deal that this is why I had a hard time getting started out of NC since a lot of those runs are taken.
I have been planning to stay out 2 weeks at a time at least the rest of this year to get equipment paid down quickly as possible. But, if no one's open on the weekends and I have to sit like I am now, I may have to rethink that. We'll just have to see an earnings comparison after a couple months of trying both ways. -
Wow, not too shabby. I just finally did the math for that first run, it was $28 / ton, and I don't know the pcmiler miles, but google maps says 344 miles, and even true miles that's $2.04 a mile.
Now what's interesting is that my Monday run really seems to BE that run he didn't advise last Thursday lol. I guess just because the deadhead would have been too high without this run in between.
Bulk sulfate (iron sulfate maybe?) from Augusta, GA to Dothan, AL. Same number of real miles but only $21 / ton. So, $1.50 /mile. Haven't figured in deadheads for either though yet, but really not a bad starting point. true enough the math is inline with that $1.75 /mile average they gave me. They've been nothing but straight-forward with me from the start.bbigcnote Thanks this. -
atlantas a zoo go thru there as late as possible or at least midday

I think I'm going through Macon instead. It's more direct.

never been thru the woods that direction wont be much help

through the woods? lol maybe you were just helpful. I couldn't get a route through macon on google maps, had to do augusta to macon, and macon to dothan. Otherwise it does me a half circle. maybe there's a good reason for it.
